Door would not automatically close.
Symptom: Door did not close automatically. Also had found small chunks of black plastic on the floor. Refrigerator door was slightly lower than the freezer door.

One false start because I did not realize both of the door-closing cams had disintegrated and I had only ordered the cam without the hinge.

Purchased part 290199 Hinge Assembly. It came with matching door-closing cam. (Had not known so I also purchased the cam 297995 separately). Next time I will know to only purchase the Hinge Assembly.

Replacement procedure took about 20 minutes including removing and replacing door shelves and their contents. Two people involved.

1. Remove all door shelves with contents and other contents on door.

2. Remove the top Phillips head screw holding the decorative plastic on the top.

3. Remove the two top hinge screws on top of refrigerator using metric #8 socket wrench. Second person made sure door did not fall off.

4. Lift the door off the bottom hinge pin. Second person holds door on it’s side.

5. Take off the bottom refrigerator cover

6. Remove the bottom hinge assembly screws using metric #8 socket wrench.

7. Mount the replacement bottom hinge assembly and tighten the two screws.

8. On the door bottom, remove the outer screw and loosen the inner screw using metric #8 socket wrench.

9. Replace the door-closing cam (or what is left of it) with the cam in line with the door and cam bumps away from the door.

10. Place the door back on the hinge pin (one person holds while the other person maneuvers the door bottom).

11. Replace the top hinge and reinsert the screws on top of the refrigerator. Dress the door so that it does not press hard on the rubber door gaskets (or the door will fail to shut automatically). Tighten the screws.

12. Replace the decorative plastic over the top hinge.

13. Open the door and replace the bottom refrigerator cover.

14. Replace the door shelves and all contents.

15 Close the door.

Snap the end cap back into place, and connect it back to the refrigerator door. This part is sold individually.

Door shelf retainer bar endcap support broke
This was really a simple repair. I just kind of pried the shelf retainer bar bottom slot that holds the old endcap on out a little and was able remove the end cap and replace it with the one from 'partselect.com' and reinstalled the end cap - this was a simple repair and I'm glad that they had the part. It was also simple to find on their site.

P.S. This may or may not help; while the refrigerator is a 'Kenmore', I found through researching that it was actually made by G.E. and branded for Kenmore.

★★★★★
★★★★★
(5)
PartSelect Number PS299258
Manufacturer Part Number WR2X8699
This part is the replacement door shelf retainer bar end cap for the left side of your refrigerator door. The end cap is approximately 4 inches by 5 inches and is made of white plastic. The end cap snaps into place on the refrigerator door so you can attach the door shelf retainer bar to the inner door liner. The main reason to replace the end cap is if it is broken, and the retainer bar cannot connect to the refrigerator door. To replace the end cap, simply disconnect it from the refrigerator door and the shelf retainer bar, and replace it with a new end cap. This part is for the left side of the shelf bar only, and the cap for the right side is sold separately. This is an OEM part from the manufacturer.

ice maker not working properly and door seal worn
Two screws held the icemaker on. You do not even have to take them all the way out to remove the IM. Replacement of the water valve was just as easy except they (parts manufacturer) updated the flange nut with a compression fitting and it took me a minute looking at it before I realize what was going on. The door seal could not be easier, no tools just a few minutes of time Read more...

end caps broke causing brace to come out
This was a very easy repair. It did not require any tools.

The thing I appreciate most about "PartSelect" is that they included pictures. Had it not been for the picture I would have chosen the wrong part. That is, there were two types of the part I wanted which looked very similar except on close inspection.

Could Not Use Shelf On Inside Refrigerator Door
All I had to do was snap in the right/left end caps (clip action) to the inside refrigerator door slots and then slide the sides of the end caps into the bar across the shelving that prevents contents from falling out. (I did not have to remove original end caps, since I no longer had them) inserting end caps to the inside door took less than five minutes. I was considering purchasing a new refrigerator before I decided to purchase the end caps. No need for a new refrigerator now. I am once again able to store milk, juice, etc. On the inside door shelf. Like new. Also, I purchased and snapped divider into place onto the shelf bar for better organization. Extremely glad to have ordered from partselect. Thank you. Alice - new jersey Read more...
