Handle Broke next to screws because improperly tightened at installation to switch handles
Removed the old handles with a phillips bit and 20V drill for freezer handle. Popped out plug with screwdriver on bottom screw of refrigerator handle and used star bit for this one screw on refrigerator door handle and phillips for other 2 screws. Positioned handles one at a time on proper door and then manually tightened all the screws with phillips screwdriver so as to not crack the handles. Used the 20V drill set on a torque setting for the star screw. After screws were in, i then put in the new screw cover over the one screw on refrigerator door and I was finished. Read more...

Bottom Freezer Handle
Broke off the freezer handle of my GE refrigerator, silly horseplay.
Super simple repair, but pricey. Old handle was already off due to being broken. remove handle brackets (that had broken ears) with a Phillips screwdriver. Replace the brackets with same screwdriver, slide new handle into place. Easy.

Broken plastic end on handle.
Remove and replace. Unfortunately this is the third handle on this refrigerator. The end is plastic and it works itself loose. If there is the slightest amount of gap it will snap the plastic. Need to tie an allen wrench to the handle and tighten it after every use apparently. Read more...

This is a door handle for the freezer compartment of compatible bottom-freezer refrigerator models. This door handle is what you pull and push on to slide the freezer compartment in and out of the fridge itself. If it is broken or unable to pull the drawer out, missing entirely, or damaged and unsightly, it will need replacement. Replacing this door handle is easy, as it simply needs the fastener screws on each side to be loosened to remove and tightened to install. This door handle is an OEM part that is sold individually, but requires an Allen wrench to remove and install, which this part does not come with.

Freezer door handle broke off
As a lot of people have reported, the freezer door handle is attached to the freezer door with cheap plastic mounts. Since it takes some force to open a freezer, these eventually break. Unfortunately, you cannot buy the plastic mount pieces separately - you need to buy the whole handle. Even worse, for some models (like my GNE25JSKFFSS), they only list the threee handle set - which is hundreds of dollars - just to fix a small plastic part. Luckily I found this item, which is the exact freezer door handle w/plastic mounts that I need. It isn't listed for my model refrigerator for some reason, but it is the same part.
I also bought an extra set of the fastener handle assemblies - the part that screws into the freezer door to hold the mounts, because I broke one off when removing the old broken mount.
Once you have the parts, its easy.
If you need to replace the fasteners attached to the door, just unscrew the one screw on each and remove the fastener.
Put the new fasteners on - insert the small nub in the small hole in freezer door and insert the screw through the large hole and screw it in.

Once you have 2 fasteners on the door, line up the holes on the handle mounts over the fasteners - it does not seem to matter which direction is up for the handle. You should be able to push the handle in so that the fasteners go in the holes on the back of the mounts, and the mounts are flush with the door - move the handle around until it is flush. Then slide it to the right with a little bit of force to get the clips on the fasteners to engage. The handle should now be securely attached.

Added parts to interior to improve capacity utilization
The 2 wire baskets FZ with their handles replaced one shelf in the freezer. Thus there was improved utilization of the capacity. When we originally filled the freezer, it was obvious that about 2 cubic feet were not used. Part numbers are WR21x10060 and WR12x10626. A similar situation is in the refrigerator side. We added the snack drawer and shelf pan assy. (replacing one glass shelf) and the shelf module FF to the door. Part numbers are WR32x26244, WR71x10685 and WR71x38318. I had to work with Parts Select Customer Service to identify the correct parts since they are not on the BOM for this model, but are on BOM's for similar capacity refrigerators. The service representatives were very helpful. Read more...
