How to Fix an F11 Code on a Frigidaire Oven
If you are seeing an F11 code on your Frigidaire oven, this indicates a shorted keypad. Over time, the heat and moisture from cooking can cause issues with the keypad, also known as the overlay for the electronic control board. While keeping your range clean is important, issues can also occur from incorrect cleaning methods. Spraying your cleaner directly onto the display can cause the liquid to drip in behind, which interferes with the keypad contact with the control board. This can result in the keypad short-circuiting which gives you the F11 error code. In this article, we’ll walk through the steps to reset your oven to clear the code, and how to replace the keypad overlay and control board if necessary.
What Causes an F11 Code on a Frigidaire Oven?
The F11 code on a Frigidaire oven means there is a shorted keypad. An electrical short can be caused by a number of factors, including moisture, physical damage, and loose connections. Since the keypad (also known as the overlay) is being touched frequently to program your oven, it is susceptible to physical damage. Moisture can also damage the keypad, causing bubbles to form which impacts the connection to the various buttons. While moisture from cooking steam is difficult to prevent, being mindful while cleaning your range can keep excess moisture from damaging the overlay. Never spray cleaner directly onto the console, instead spray onto your cleaning cloth, ensuring it’s just damp instead of soaking wet. Following these best practices can help prevent an F11 code from occurring. If it’s too late and you now need to correct this issue, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
How to Reset a Frigidaire Oven to Clear an Error Code
The first step in the repair is to reset your oven. Since an F11 code is an electrical related issue, the good ol’ “turn it off and back on again” method can often correct this. If the error code comes back after the reset has been done, then a part is likely failing, and further troubleshooting will be required. If your Frigidaire oven control panel is displaying any error code (not just F11), here is how to reset the appliance to clear the code:
- Turn off the oven and either flip the breaker or unplug the power cord from the wall.
- Leave the oven unplugged for at least 5 minutes to allow any residual electricity to dissipate.
- Plug the oven back in and set the clock (note that the bake or broil function on Frigidaire ovens won’t work unless the clock is set).
- Attempt to start a bake or broil function. If the error code comes back, proceed to inspect the keypad or control board following the steps below.
How to Inspect and Replace a Frigidaire Oven Keypad and Control Board
If resetting your oven still didn’t correct the issues with your oven, you may need to replace the keypad overlay, or the electronic control board. Please note that these are two separate parts that are sold individually, so it is important to determine which is causing the issues. If the overlay is in good condition, with no bubbles or debris impacting its function, it can be removed and used on a new electronic control board. However, if the overlay is cracking, dirty, bubbling, or has other signs of damage, you will want to replace it with a new one. Here are the steps for accessing, removing, and replacing both the keypad overlay, and the electronic control board. Please note that the steps for your model may vary, but these steps and the video below will provide a thorough overview of the process.
- Begin by disconnecting the power to the range by either unplugging the power cord or flipping the appropriate breaker. Then pull the range out from the wall so that you can access the back panel.
- Remove the various screws holding the panel in place. Depending on your model of Frigidaire range, the panel may be in one or multiple pieces. Once removed, set the panel aside.
- We recommend taking a photo of the wire harnesses that are connected to the electronic control board. This way, you have a reference when reinstalling the part after your repair.
- Disconnect all the wiring harnesses by carefully pressing in the locking tabs and pulling them off the control board.
- Unscrew the four screws that hold the control board to the console, then remove the board from the console and place it on a clean work surface.
- Inspect your control board for any signs of burnt, shorted, or damaged contacts. You should also look for any other signs of wear or damage on the control board. If you see any of these, a new control board should be installed.
- Next, we are going to remove the overlay (keypad) from the control board. If you are going to reuse the overlay on a new control board, be very careful not to bend or damage it while removing. If a new overlay is being installed, still be mindful not to cause any damage to the control board during removal. A thin putty knife can be used to break the seal and pry the overlay off the control board.
- To replace the overlay, remove the protective backing and carefully line up the overlay onto the control board. Carefully smooth it into place, ensuring there are no air bubbles and that it’s firmly attached to the board.
- Reinstall the electronic control board by reversing the steps above. Plug the oven back in and ensure that the display and keypad work properly to complete your repair.

Dealing with an F11 error code on your Frigidaire oven can be frustrating but understanding what causes it and how to fix it can save you time, money, and unnecessary stress. Often, a simple reset can clear temporary issues, but if the problem persists, replacing the keypad overlay or control board is a straightforward repair you can do yourself with a few basic tools. Regular maintenance and proper cleaning practices can help prevent future keypad shorts and keep it running reliably for years to come.
