Ice bin overfilling
I'm an hvac/r technician, and regularly work on ice machines. Begin my pulling the white over beneath the control panel. It snaps in place so pull on the bottom then left out. 1/4 nut driver is all you need, and remove the screw holding the bin thermistor clip to the side. Up to the right , beneath the control panel, behind the plastic panel you previously removed is the mollex connector. Unplug the thermistor and follow instructions in reverse to reinstall. This condenser fan motor kit includes a motor, fan blade, wire harness, and screws. Used in a refrigerator, the condenser fan motor moves the condenser fan blade to direct and move air across the condenser coil. Please note: The manufacturer has changed the appearance of the product from the original. The kit still functions the same as the original part. It is an OEM factory replacement. Make sure to unplug the refrigerator from the power source and wear gloves to protect your hands. Also, a helpful tip is to store food to prevent deterioration when the power is off.

Seven year old condenser fan was making noise when it was running.
The process to repair was very simple, I removed the back of the refrigerator to expose the motor area. I then removed three screws that held the condenser motor in place. once it was loose I detactched the electrical harness and removed the old motor. I then placed the new motor in place and secured it with the screws and reattached the new electrical harness that came with the new part. Once completed I reviewed it to make sure I didn't miss anything. I then replaced the cover over the motor area and enjoyed my success in repairing my own appliance with no added cost for labor, which would have been expensive I'm sure. The part purchased came with clear and consice instructions very easy to follow. Read more...

Ice Maker PUMP
★★★★★
★★★★★
6 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS16730541
Manufacturer Part Number W11566405
A recirculating pump is used with standalone ice cube makers. It circulates the water over the top of the evaporator plate, which produces a layer of ice that is then broken down into ice cubes. If you notice that your ice maker is no longer producing ice or there is no water flowing over the cooling plate, this could be due to the recirculating pump not working. Be sure to keep the pump clean and free of build-up. This pump is 5.75 inches in length, 4.75 inches in width, 4.25 inches in height and weighs 0.81 lbs. This is a genuine OEM appliance part that comes directly from the manufacturer.

Water not refilling after initial batch of ice
The water filled on startup (actually over-filled, which was a clue). After that water was used to make ice, no new water came in so the recirculation pump just made whining noises in the mostly empty reservoir. Since water could come in (on start up) I reasoned it wasn't the water inlet valve, and everything else suggested the ice maker was getting inaccurate info about how much water was in the reservoir. Turns out, the water recirculation pump has a water level sensor built in. So while the pump itself still functioned, the water level sensor inside had gone bad. Replacing the pump fixed the issue. There are videos online that show how to accomplish that, but it was pretty straight-forward. The dis-assembly was sometimes irritating because it's hard to see and maneuver around inside. It'll help if you put the machine closer to eye level. Pay close attention to videos that show the disassembly because there are a couple of tabs that are hard to find. Read more...

pump making noise
The pump was making noise, so I decided to replace both pumps. I had to remove the water bucket to get to the pumps which are easy to change out once there. It is easy to see what you have to remove to get to it. I used the mirror and rachet, extensions, 1/4 socket to remove screws. Tips - Remove the plastic door-inner to help working inside the bin. Also plug the drain because you will drop screws. Magnet sockets don't work on stainless steel. Later I found it is much easier to work inside the bin by pulling the entire unit out (shut off water and power, remove lower panel and disconnect drain tube). It sounds hard, but actually is easy. REMOVE THE TOP (4 screws). it stays connected because of wiring, but it allows full access and makes all kinds of repairs easy, especially pump replacement and even the circuit board behind the front panel buttons if you ever get to that point.

The pumps weren't the problem. The water bucket was only parially filling causing the pump to make noise. The problem was the WATER INLET VALVE. It is super easy to replace. Just remove the lower panel, and the valve is right there. Shut off power and water. To disconnect the hoses you PULL on the little fittings attached to the valve and then pull out the hoses. Took me 15 minutes.

BTW Partselect is awesome, I have used a number of times for ice maker and dishwasher. My next project is the washing machine! Always the right part shipped very quickly.
