Ice Maker Circulation Pump
PartSelect Number PS16555298
Manufacturer Part Number W11542868
This ice maker reservoir drain pump assembly is designed to efficiently remove excess water from the reservoir, ensuring proper drainage and preventing leaks or water accumulation. Activated after the defrost cycle or flushing protocol, the pump expels residual water to maintain internal dryness and support optimal cooling performance. Its role in preventing pooling helps protect the appliance from potential water damage and contributes to consistent ice production. Constructed for reliable operation, this component is essential for maintaining the overall functionality of the ice machine and is suitable for select models. Replacing a faulty pump can restore proper drainage and prevent operational issues caused by excess moisture.

Water not refilling after initial batch of ice
The water filled on startup (actually over-filled, which was a clue). After that water was used to make ice, no new water came in so the recirculation pump just made whining noises in the mostly empty reservoir. Since water could come in (on start up) I reasoned it wasn't the water inlet valve, and everything else suggested the ice maker was getting inaccurate info about how much water was in the reservoir. Turns out, the water recirculation pump has a water level sensor built in. So while the pump itself still functioned, the water level sensor inside had gone bad. Replacing the pump fixed the issue. There are videos online that show how to accomplish that, but it was pretty straight-forward. The dis-assembly was sometimes irritating because it's hard to see and maneuver around inside. It'll help if you put the machine closer to eye level. Pay close attention to videos that show the disassembly because there are a couple of tabs that are hard to find.

Ice Maker Pump
PartSelect Number PS16730541
Manufacturer Part Number W11566405
A recirculating pump is used with standalone ice cube makers. It circulates the water over the top of the evaporator plate, which produces a layer of ice that is then broken down into ice cubes. If you notice that your ice maker is no longer producing ice or there is no water flowing over the cooling plate, this could be due to the recirculating pump not working. Be sure to keep the pump clean and free of build-up. This pump is 5.75 inches in length, 4.75 inches in width, 4.25 inches in height and weighs 0.81 lbs. This is a genuine OEM appliance part that comes directly from the manufacturer.

Ice Maker Pump
The pumps weren't the problem. The water bucket was only parially filling causing the pump to make noise. The problem was the WATER INLET VALVE. It is super easy to replace. Just remove the lower panel, and the valve is right there. Shut off power and water. To disconnect the hoses you PULL on the little fittings attached to the valve and then pull out the hoses. Took me 15 minutes.
BTW Partselect is awesome, I have used a number of times for ice maker and dishwasher. My next project is the washing machine! Always the right part shipped very quickly. Read more...

pump making noise
The pump was making noise, so I decided to replace both pumps. I had to remove the water bucket to get to the pumps which are easy to change out once there. It is easy to see what you have to remove to get to it. I used the mirror and rachet, extensions, 1/4 socket to remove screws. Tips - Remove the plastic door-inner to help working inside the bin. Also plug the drain because you will drop screws. Magnet sockets don't work on stainless steel. Later I found it is much easier to work inside the bin by pulling the entire unit out (shut off water and power, remove lower panel and disconnect drain tube). It sounds hard, but actually is easy. REMOVE THE TOP (4 screws). it stays connected because of wiring, but it allows full access and makes all kinds of repairs easy, especially pump replacement and even the circuit board behind the front panel buttons if you ever get to that point. The pumps weren't the problem. Ice Maker Water Pump And Motor
After several attemtps, I finally reached one screw and bolt it immediately. Rest was piece of cake.
What I liked most, is that you don't need to do any wiring connections, because it uses a simple plug-in connector that goes in at the same time when you bolt the new pump.
What it surprised me, was that my machine it's over 20 years old, and the new replacement water pump it's the very same design !!!
Last night I fixed it, and today I'm enjoying again fresh ice.
One plus for PartSelect : I inherit this machine and didn't have an Installation & Operation Manual, and PartSelect have it On-Line, so I printed it, and I believe I'm ready another 20 year period of fresh ice!

The water pump broke (too old).
I removed the three nuts that hold the old pump, easy. Next step was to replace with the new pump, tricky, because it goes real deep in the machine and my arms barely reach it. After several attemtps, I finally reached one screw and bolt it immediately. Rest was piece of cake.
