General Electric Washer Dampening Strap

PartSelect Number PS271100
Manufacturer Part Number WH1X2727
The tub dampening straps support the wash tub and reduce vibration by keeping the tub at the center of the cabinet. If your washer shakes and moves, or is making a loud banging noise during the wash cycle, the washing machine tub could be off-balance, meaning one or more of these straps may be loose, or broken. Other symptoms include: the washer leaking, not agitating, or pumping but not spinning. These straps are sold individually. However, we recommend that you replace all 4 straps at the same time. It is also recommended that you check the tub for cracks where these straps mount.

broken dampening strap and loose agitator
first remove the front washer cover by finding the two pressure clips that hold it to the top lid. gently push the putty knife into the clips one at a time. this will raise and separate them from the front panel. the panel will tilt forward and u can now remove it from the bottom clips by sliding it up and out. to open the top cover u remove the two 1/4 in screws on the sides of the front panel and lift the top. make sure to secure it in place or unplug the single electrical connection at the rear and remove the whole top from the clips, its really simple and the most convenient mehtod. to remove the straps u can now get to all four without much interference. there are two size screw heads so make sure u have a nut driver or small socket set. after changing the straps i went to change the agitator coupling. the agitator pulled directly up without a problem. just put your two hands under and pull straight up with one good jolt. the plastic coupler has one bolt in the middle that came out easily with a small socket set. my problem arose when the plastic coupler would not come off the metal shaft. after a short time of pulling and prying i finally decided to cut it off. using a small hacksaw and taking my time i put two cuts into the coupler. they were on opposite sides and where vertical, running along the steel shaft. i could now split it in two and it came off very easily and quickly. now when putting on the new one make sure the splines line up. push as far down as u can then use the center bolt to seat the gear all the way down. the agitator also has to be lined up just right. it also has splines on the interior that allow it to line up with the coupler and merely push down until it reseats itself in place. replace the top of the washer and then the front panel. don't forget to rebolt the top panel to the frame. push the front panel in until it snaps into place. full replacement time was about 40 minutes and actually not bad with the right tools. General Electric Washer Rod & Spring Assembly
PartSelect Number PS12343380
Manufacturer Part Number WH16X26910
This rod and spring assembly is designed to fit with washing machines and is made by the original manufacturer of your washer. It is a part of the washer suspension system that helps to stabilize and support the drum. The rod is a cylindrical plastic component that connects the drum to the outer frame of the washing machine. The spring is made of metal and provides tension and elasticity. The assembly is designed to absorb shocks and vibrations while the washer is running to help prevent excessive movement. If the assembly is damaged or out of alignment, the washer will be unstable and noisy. This assembly is designed to fit on the right side of the washer.

Faild to spin with leavy clothes
Unplugged washer and hoses. Removed 4 screws in back control panel and 4 screws holding control panel down. Drained capacitor and checked that. It was good. Pryed washer top off with screw driver. Used vice grips to remove old and install new spring rods, replacing them one at a time. While lid was off I cut a small diameter pool noodle in half and cut 4 half noodles the size of each side. I unclipped one side of the tub cap and ran an 11" zip tie through the hole in the middle of one side and back up and out where the tub skirt and cap meet, then tied the half noodle to the edge of the tub cap and snapped down cap. Then repeated with the other three sides. I did this so heavier clothes, if they got out of balance, would continue to spin. The noodles keeping the tub from moving too far out of balance. The rod springs helped with lighter loads but still shut down spinning with heavy clothes. The machine always handled heavy clothes for 7 years until the last month or so. If it breaks with the noodles, I'll get another new machine. Read more...

This is a manufacturer-made suspension rod and spring assembly for your washing machine. This suspension rod is one of four suspension rods that make up the entirety of the inner suspension of your washing machine, and if worn out or damaged, must be replaced immediately. If you hear loud or excessive banging noises from your washing machine, this and/or other suspension rods within the washing machine are worn out. This specific suspension rod is the left assembly, so the parts for the other side of your washing machine will also be required when replacing this one, considering they all wear at a relatively similar rate. This suspension rod assembly is sold individually, so it does not come with any other suspension rods.

needed mode selector, and gears replaced
year and a half old unit.
The Mode selector failed to properly engage the gears and gears were grinding.
O moved dryer out of area. And then turned off water, disconnected the hoses from wall. Placed hoses including drain hose into 5-gallon bucket and clamped so they would stay. I then moved washer away from wall about 2'. Then tipped it back against wall. Used 2x4 to keep it there as a support. (Doing this allowed me to keep it in the area and not dump water on floor. Then removed the gear guard, gears and mode selector. Reinstalled all parts and packed gears with synthetic grease made for plastic. It is now working like new. Parts were exact match. Took 30 minutes. Also cleaned the dryer vet line while I had it apart.

Damper-Shocks Brocken-Arrowhead top broken off all four (4) Dampers
~Unplugged
~Removed front bottom and rear center panel
~Removed broken dampers. Varying difficulty; other components in the way. Used socket to help push pin out with screwdriver and pliers to help remove the pin.
~Installed New Dampers: Used Small (6") crescent wrench for top. Fitting two (2) hands in there, one to hold and one to turn was a challenge for all four (4) dampers. Had to extend a couple to wedge to damper in there to hold the arrow hear flush.
Installing the pins in the bottom was somewhat easier than the top. I broke the retaining pin completely off an old pin to align the new damper to the base mounting hole (hard to see in there). Used Pliers, a long screwdriver and rubber mallet.
Note my situation was in a very small room. So small I had to remove the door to the room so that I could pull the washer out to get behind it. The warnings about sharp edges should not be ignored! Long sleeves (chainmail) and steel fish fillet gloves might help!

This is a replacement shock absorber for your washer. The shock absorber is approximately 9 inches long and a little more than one inch wide. It is black and silver in color, and is sold individually. There are four shock absorbers on your washer, and they support the tub and prevent it from shaking around. If your washer is shaking or making a lot of noise during operation, you may need to replace the shock absorber. It is important to determine if you have one or more shock absorbers that need replacement before you begin the repair. This is an OEM part from the manufacturer.
