This is a dual-action agitator for a washer. It is an OEM replacement part that is sourced from the manufacturer. The agitator tosses your clothes to clean them efficiently. This plastic dual-action agitator is white in color. It is approximately 18 inches tall with a base diameter of about 12 1/4 inches. No tools are required for this repair. Your agitator has eight tabs that fasten on the drive block of your washer, which is driven by the transmission. This part does not include the agitator coupling kit, which is frequently purchased at the same time as the agitator.

One of eight clips broke off of the agitator assy allowing the assembly to come lose on heavy loads.
I replaced the coupling by only having to remove one bolt with a socket wrench. Once replaced I installed the new assy over the coupling making sure ro align the splines then pushing down until the assy snapped into place. Easy. Read more...

General Electric Washer Agitator Coupling Kit

The agitator coupler connects the agitator to the agitator shaft. Common symptoms of a damaged coupler include: a grinding sound during the wash cycle, the washer refusing to agitate or spin, or the washing machine shakes and moves during the wash cycle. Unplug the washer and pull the agitator straight up. Remove the bolt that holds the coupler onto the shaft of the transmission and pull the coupler off. Be sure to clean any dirt, rust, or residue off the transmission spline grooves, and make sure the grooves on the agitator splines are clean and undamaged. We recommend using the gasket and bolt that come with the replacement coupling.

This part is a replacement fabric softener dispenser for your washer. If your washer will not dispense fabric softener or detergent, or will not agitate, you may need to replace the dispenser. When it is working, the dispenser releases fabric softener during the wash cycle. You can find the dispenser screwed in to the top of the agitator. To replace the dispenser simply unscrew it, and replace it with a new one. This is an OEM part, and is sold individually.

agitator would not turn during wash cycle
First raise the lid on the washer then remove the agitator by placing hands under the agitator 180 degrees apart and pulling up. Pulling up one side and then the other until the agiator lifts up and off. Mine was stuck tight so I had to really work it back and forth to get it loose. Be careful while lifting on the agitator because when it comes loose it could hit you in the face since you are over it while lifting. Once you get the agitator off use a 7/16 socket and 3/8 rachet and remove the coupling. Place the new coupling on the shaft, making sure to line up the splines on the shaft and the coupling and install the 7/16 bolt and thighten it. Place the agitator on the coupling by lining up the splines and pushing down on the agitator until it seats. Time to repair was 30 minutes. Read more...

Agitator was shredded
The agitator broke free while the washer was spinning and it shredded the plastic. All I had to do was remove a little top cap off the agitator by prying it up with a screwdriver, then replacing the cap on the new agitator. Viola! Done. Very easy! Read more...
