After shutting off electricity, lay dishwasher on it's side (use a towel to absorb any water) then just use nut driver to remove faulty valve.

Amana Dishwasher Motor And Pump Kit
1. I also purchased a new drain solenoid and impeller kit. Note that both of these items are already included in the Motor and Pump kit replacement. There is no need to by both, now I have extras.
2. The end of the drain tube has to be trimmed if you are routing the drain tube to an air gap mounted on your kitchen sink. You have to cut the large diameter end of the tube to get to the narrow portion that will fit on your air gap.
3. The first cycle you run with the new motor/pump assembly is noisy. When you first fire it up the components in the pump are all dry, and they squeal until the water gets to them. I initially thought I had done something wrong, but once the water started flowing all the peculiar sounds cleared up. Read more...

Water not draining from dishwasher
I had never done work on my dishwasher - I was a rookie in this area. Turns out the work itself was quite simple. Pulled the dishwasher out, turned it over, and was able to easily replace the motor and pump assembly. The drain tube was also an easy replace. A couple key notes:1. Dishwasher stopped washing dishes , the unit filled and drained , but no washing action.
The dishwasher stilled filled with water and drained. after verifying that the unit was mostly empty of water, I placed the unit on its back. I removed the main pump leaving the wire terminals in place so I could energize the pump out side of the dishwasher (cut with diagonal cutter). I energized the pump and found that it ran. I noticed that the impellor had significant movement side to side. I suspected that the impellor was jamming in the pump housing. I ordered a new pump from Parts Select. I installed the new pump and reconnected the electrical. The dishwasher operation was restored.

Problem when removing actual pump as a thin metal screen fell out after. Cleaned it and tried to reinstall the screen. It took over an hour figuring out how the screen went back in as it was cut to fit a certain way and had to try it over and over blindly then try to get it to stay before putting in pump. Finally put DW on its face. It was almost two hours after starting that everything was done exactly as instructed.
Started washer. Water came in perfectly. After about two minutes when the washer arms would start there was a horrible grinding sound and we promptly turned it off. My wife gave up the fight and is washing dishes by hand. That was a $172.00 experience. Read more...
