Oven wouldn't heat
Over the range microwave. Replaced magnetron. Completely disassemble the case top and bottom. Remove screws from bottom of HV transformer. Magnetron will not clear without this removal.
Remove nuts with socket from top of Magnetron. Remove thermo unit from old magnetron and attach it to new. Replace and bolt down Mag. Repl

Unit worked fine except it would not heat
Had to take unit off wall and disassemble the main casing.then disconnected the wires from the magnetron.took the mounting nuts off but wasn't able to remove the magnetron until I loosened the transformer out of the way .Then it came out easy.Installed the magnetron ,tightened the nuts,installed the transformer back in, connected the t

The microwave suddenly stopped heating and began jumping loudly. Is it likely the magnetron stopped working?

Hello Steve, thank you for your question. It is possible the magnetron has failed, but before replacing that part we would recommend checking the Line Fuse Part Number: WB27X10388,
Secondary Door Switch Part Number: WB24X829 and Monitor Door Switch Part Number: WB24X830. You may also wish to check the High Voltage Diode Part Number: WB27X1160 as well. These parts are more commonly the issues with microwaves that don't heat any longer. I hope this helps!

Microwave doesn’t heat up food. Every thing else runs normally. Does it sound like magnetron or high voltage diode failed? How do we test to make sure which one failed by a multimeter?

I have done all the checks on my GE over the range microwave that makes an electrical arc sound like an old flyback in a tv. This only lasts a few seconds, everything else works but no heat. Diode, capacity, transformer, switches and thermo cut outs check good on my fluke. With the case off, i see the magnetron arcing inside its galvanized looking square case when this occurs. I would have to say this is the problem. Would like to know your thoughts. One other thing, the thermo switch at the bottom of the unit must be to make the vent fan run when cooking on the stove below and it becomes very warm. So this should check as an open switch when cold? When i jumper this switch and turn the unit on, the vent fan runs immediately. Thanx

Hello Jerry, Thank you for the question. Yes, I would recommend having the Magnetron replaced, Part Number: PS239126. The Hood Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS239318 closes with heat to run the vent fan and ensure the temperature is at a safer level. So when cold it should read open. There's a hum, no heating, and a smell of ozone when the unit is running.The resistance across the leads of my magnetron read less than 1 ohm. The resistance from leads to case is infinite.

Everything seems to be working on the microwave except it fails to heat after I heard a "poof". Should I order the magnetron?

Hello Darla, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the High Voltage Diode first. You can test with a Multi Meter to check for continuity. It should have a reading. The magnetron can be tested with an multi meter set on the highest scale. Across the terminals, you should read 0 ohms (or .5 ohms). Test both terminals to ground with one lead and make sure it is not shorted. We hope this helps!
