Why is there an audible “click” accompanied by slight resistance coming from the bottom door hinge hook auto closer when I open the fridge door ?

Why does the door stopper actually stop the door from closing all the way until you push it over the humps so to speak. Then it closes is there any way to get rid of that section where it stops the door before it closes? Any adjustments that can be made or any part that can be changed it's a brand new refrigerator
