Dryer stopped working
From previous experience I suspected the thermal fuse. Turned off the power and removed the front of the dryer by removing the two philips head screws in the door hinge and the two screws on the opposite side of the opening. ... Read moremal fuse is located on the side of the chamber enclosing the heating element. I removed the wires connected to the thermal fuse and temporarily joined them together with a spade type connector in order to determine if the thermal fuse was the problem. Turned the power back on and tried the dryer......it ran normally. Turned the power back off and removed the thermal fuse by taking out th two screws with a 1/4" nutdriver. Ordered a replacement thermal fuse, installed it (with power turned off) and put everything back together. Dryer functioned normally after the thermal fuse had been replaced. The thermal fuse can be removed and reinstalled using a 1/4" nutdriver. The wires are connected with push on spade type terminals. Note: The swing damper on the dryer vent (the hooded cover where it exhausts to the outdoors) was jammed in the closed position with an accumulation of lint, which caused the dryer to overheat and blow the thermal fuse. If you experience a blown thermal fuse, always look for the cause or you'll blow the replacement within minutes of running the fryer again.

No heat - otherwise worked fine
Although I ordered the heating element and thermal fuse in anticipation I really needed the Terminal Insulator kit for the heating element. Next removed the front cover of the heater housing by undoing the two screws that hold it to the bottom plate and unscrewed the nuts that hold the heating element in place on the inside and the outside of the heater housing. Assembly was easy just follow the steps backwards. ! When the front is off it is a good time to use a vacuum cleaner to remove the lint that accumulates everywhere, especially in the air output !

Dryer would not turn start
I troubleshot the repair using the repair help section from Parts Select. It made finding the problem a snap. I then removed the four wires and two screws that held the heating element in place. Removed two screws that held thermal fuse in place and replaced. By accomplishing the repair myself I saved well over a hundred dollars.

Unit would not come on due to blown fuse
Remove 2 front door screws and 2 side cover screws . Remove front cover replace switches and fuses. De- lint the blower and vent duct. Reinstall cover door finished.

Will not start but control panel has lights but no buttons will work including the start button. it is frozen in the last settings and after while the lights go off. also it happened then i unpluged it waited till next day plugged it in and it ran dried a load then when we went to use it again latter lights on but nothing worked again. not working now what could be the most obvious problem. Did clean everything out real good thank you

Hello James, Thank you for the question. This is most likley a defective Electronic Control Board, Part Number: PS2036598. I looked up the part and it is listed as No Longer Available/Discontinued. There is no part substitutions listed. My suggestion here would be to call the manufacturer and see if they can provide you with a substitution for these part numbers. Hope this helps!

How do you check the thermal fuse and the thermostat. Do you check it with a multi meter & what are the specs for the thermal fuse & the thermostat, as in , what would the ohms be for each one of these .

Hi Thomas, Thank you for the question. The fuse should read closed for continuity,meaning it has a continuous electrical path through it when good. Hope this helps!

We keep blowing thermal fuses we have now cleaned the vent duct and confirmed that it is clear. Could it be a bad thermostat that is not cycling properly and allowing the dryer to overheat thus blowing the fuse?

Hello Brent, thank you for your question. Anytime you replace the fuse, you should replace the thermostat part number WP303396. This high limit/safety thermostat is used on many of Maytag's brands of gas and electric clothes dryers. With this thermostat, a dryer's heating element will cut out if the internal temperature reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The element will kick back in when the temperature drops to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. If the thermostat isn't cycling the element off, then the fuse will blow every time. I would suggest replacing part number WP303396 along with new fuse. I hope this helps!

My Maytag neptune will run for one load and when you go to run it again it will run for about half the time and give a pf code. I have checked the lint shoot and cleaned it. Dryer still doing the same thing. Can unplug for about half an hour and will work again but only for a short time before it does it again. Can keep repeating and finely get clothes dry. I think some thing is getting hot and over heating because after it cools for about 30 mins. It will run till it gets hot again.Thanks

Hello Mark, thank you for inquiring. Have you checked the door to see if it is closely properly or all the way? A faulty Door Catch part PS2162263 or Door Switch part PS1964648 could be the cause. If not, then it may be the Cycling Thermostat part PS11743793 or the High Limit Thermostat part PS11740647 causing it. We hope this helps.

My dryer takes three times longer to dry should I replace heating element and the thermal fuse

Hello Tam, Thank you for the question. I woudl first check to make sure there is no lint build up inside the cabinet of the appliance. Also check the vent pine for a build up and make sure it is sitting flat with no dips that condensation can build up in to block proper air flow. If that checks out, you can check the
Cycling Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS11743793 and The High Limit Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS11740647. Normally if you have heat the element is good. Hope this helps!
I applied the test leads to the switch for the heat thermostat located on the frame holding the drum. It read 00.Lo. Does that mean that the thermostat is good?

Thank you for your question. Set your multimeter to the R X 1 setting. Take each of your meter's probes and touch one to each terminal. You are testing for continuity, and you should receive a reading of either zero or infinity. At room temperature, testing the thermal fuse should produce a reading of zero. But if a thermal fuse is tested when it is heated to its limit, a reading of infinity should be produced. We strongly recommend that you test your thermal fuse at room temperature. If the test you conduct with your thermal fuse does not produce these results, then you should replace the component. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
