High Limit Thermostat (Limit: 200-30) Specifications
This high limit/safety thermostat is used on many of Maytag's brands of gas and electric clothes dryers. With this thermostat, a dryer's heating element will cut out if the internal temperature reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The element will kick back in when the temperature drops to 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cleaned out a lot of lint. Dryer still won't heat at all. What part is needed and where is it on the machine.

Thank you for your question. There are a number of parts that you can check to see if they are not working. Your door switch, your thermostats, your heating element, and your thermal fuses. I would suggest testing your thermal fuses first. You have two of them. One attached to your heating element and one in your blower area. You can test all of these parts with a multi meter. Would this part be the first thing to try if dryer is not heating??
Hello Terry, Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, this would be one of the first parts to try. You can actually test it with a multimeter to see if it has continuity. It seems that the heater is not cycling because I put my heater checker inside of the unit and it was like 285 degrees and you could not touch the back of the unit without getting burned. I was just wondering if this high-limit thermostat on the heating element could be the problem?

Thanks for your question. It would be worth testing the thermostats, the temperature switch, and the thermal fuses for continuity with a multimeter to see if they have continuity. Replace anything that does not have continuity.

The dryer seems to be running fine but isn't heating. I've also noticed that the timer isn't moving while the dryer is running. I don't know if this helps narrow the problem down or not.Thanks

Hello Jonnie, thank you for writing. This may be due to a faulty Timer Dial Skirt, part number PS11741055 for your model. You may also want to consider this High Limit Thermostat, part number PS11740647 as the cause. Good luck with your repair!

Getting a burnt smell from dryer , heater getting very hot

Hello Art, thank you for writing. The overheating may be caused by a faulty High Limit Thermostat. This part number PS11740647 is the compatible replacement for your model. You may need to replace the Heating Element as well, part number PS11740682. It is not recommended to use the dryer in this condition. Good luck with your repair!

We just replaced the wp303396 and wp307473. Dryer worked great for couple of days and now exactly same problem as before replacing. Any input on what could be causing and what needs to be done to fix? Thanks

HI Debra, Thank you for the question. As a safety precaution these parts can blow when the dryer is over heating. In most cases the hose leading to the air vent outside is blocked. You can make sure the hose is laying flat with no dips or bends as it can collect lint and condensation. Also check to make sure no critters have decided to take up residence in there.You can also open up the cabinet and vacuum out any lint build up and dust. Hope this helps!

How to test high limit thermostat

Thank you for your question. To test a high limit thermostat, you will need to use a multimeter to see if it has continuity. Before removing and testing the high limit thermostat, you will need to unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet. The high limit thermostat can be found on the blower wheel housing or inside the exhaust system. With your multimeter on the Rx1 setting, test it for continuity by touching the probes to each terminal. You should receive a reading of zero or infinity. If your test does not produce either of those readings, you will need a replacement high limit thermostat. Unit would not come on due to blown fuse
Remove 2 front door screws and 2 side cover screws . Remove front cover replace switches and fuses. De- lint the blower and vent duct. Reinstall cover door finished.
Dryer not staying hot. Heat shuts off and doesn't come back on.
Detach front door and pop off front panel. Replaced heating unit on right and all parts on unit. Replaced cycling timer and thermostor on left. The thermostat was the last item replaced. We did this on three stages. First we replaced heating element, still had problem. Then we replaced the high limit and cycling thermostats, still had problem. Had a repairman out. He could not figure it out, because there were no error codes. He suggested replacing the thermostor. We did that and it fixed our problem. We could have saved alot if we did that first, but no one mentioned that part.
maytag dryer-no heat or heat at start-10 mins no heat
replaced high limit thermostat-303396 and cycling thermostat-306056 approx $48.00. Remove dryer door with 2 screws in hinges and 2 screws on other side.Remove front panel-pull out from top-swing down to unhinge from bottom hooks to expose parts lower front. Small socket for high limit thermostat bolts@heating element housing and same socket for cycling thermostat@blower exhaust air housing-both easily accessible in front lower area.Unplug power before working inside.
Broken contact on high limit thermostat - dryer no start
First I unplugged the dryer! Then unscrewed the two screws at the bottom of the front door. To remove the front door, swing the bottom up about 30 degrees until the two triangular hooks at the top of the door release. Then release the two wires going to the door switch from their harness so as to gain more slack to move the door out of the way. The switch was secured by 2 hex head sheet metal screws1/4inch in diameter. I used a small right angle socket wrench to get these loose. I only had to remove the front screw completely to be able to take the switch out for exchange purposes. Once this was done, reverse the process and plug it in! (BTW, the electrical schematic for this dryer is up under the top console)

Sqeaking and sqealing
Removed the front (two screws at bottom). Marked all the wires for the door switch, bulb socket and sensor and unplugged. Removed the barrel hanger (four hex screws two each side). Cleaned and vacuumed internals. Removed the front hanger and barrell. Started with rear rollers, removed old rollers and washers. Using 1/2" box end wrench loosened roller shaft nuts on rear of bracket. Installed in reverse shafts, washers, rollers, snap rings. Installed new theromstat on new element, Removed screws from old element. Swapped wires from one post on old element to new. Installed new element. Reinstalled barrell, and front hanger. Realigned new belt, making sure all clearences around idler pulley. Free wheeled barrel, no binding. Re-attached sensor and switch leads. Reattached front.
Plugged in and tested successful. Took two hours and three beers.
First I removed the two screws from the dryer front cover (located just under door)I Then swung font cover up and off it's latches. Exposing drum asy and heating element. Using a nut driver to remove two hold down screws and disconnect electrical wires from heating element. Really simple! took me approxmatly 20 minutes and this included vacuuming inside motor area with a shop vac.
Dryer over heating...not shutting off or going thru cycles properly.
Opened front of dryer & watched the heating unit not shutting off. Purchased the proper high limit thermostat. Replaced it and the multi-temp cycling thermostat for good measure. My dryer runs like new with no additional problems. Thanks for making parts so readily available. Thought I was going to have to replace my dryer, but now it's fixed.....Thanks,again.
Removed front cover, removed old heating unit, installed new thermostat,heating coil inside the dryer and finally replaced the fuse in the front. The main complication was reaching the screws for the heating coil, not really complex.
Took off door, then removed front of dryer to access the internal controls. Project went pretty darn well

Given the fact that this part is 26% most likely the cause of the dryer not heating I ordered this part with the hopes that it was the cause. I replaced the little devil with some difficulty because of the small hex screws holding it in place. I removed the first one up front completely. When I went to remove the second I found out I only had to turn the screw 1/2 turn to loosen & the part came loose because it slides into place. The tabs of the part are slotted for that feature to make it simple to uninstall & reinstall. When finished installing the new part and starting the dryer it did not work. Bummer so I proceeded to order the next part that may be causing the problem, the heater box itself. After getting the heater box and replacing it that did not work, BUMMER AGAIN. But after rechecking breaker boxes and all made switches I found the door switch was not making good contact causing the dryer not to come on. I made the switch and the dryer worked. It makes me wonder if I had rechecked the door switch on the first repair would it have worked? I am betting the first repair would have been good. Lesson learned.
