Given the fact that this part is 26% most likely the cause of the dryer not heating I ordered this part with the hopes that it was the cause. I replaced the little devil with some difficulty because of the small hex screws holding it in place. I removed the first one up front completely. When I went to remove the second I found out I only had to turn the screw 1/2 turn to loosen & the part came loose because it slides into place. The tabs of the part are slotted for that feature to make it simple to uninstall & reinstall. When finished installing the new part and starting the dryer it did not work. Bummer so I proceeded to order the next part that may be causing the problem, the heater box itself. After getting the heater box and replacing it that did not work, BUMMER AGAIN. But after rechecking breaker boxes and all made switches I found the door switch was not making good contact causing the dryer not to come on. I made the switch and the dryer worked. It makes me wonder if I had rechecked the door switch on the first repair would it have worked? I am betting the first repair would have been good. Lesson learned.

My electric heater element shorted out
My heater element shorted out causing my dryer to overheat and blow the thermal fuse. I replaced the heater element, the thermal fuse, and the High limit fuse. Everything is working perfectly now.
I followed the YouTube video for pulling the heating element to remove and place the thermostat. The actual thermostat removal and replacement was pretty simple. Most of my time was spent removing the front panel, pulling and reinstalling the heating element.

The left drum support roller spun easily, but had a little roughness and slight noise, the right one spun easily but not like I thought a new one would have spun, the idler pulley was stiff and very noisy. The thermostats all seemed to be in good shape (had continuity). I cleaned the bearings and shafts of all of the rollers with alcohol, paper towels and cotton swabs. The bearings and shafts all looked like new, so I lubed them with a slight amount of high temperature grease and reassembled the rollers. They moved smoothly and quietly. The fan was quite full of lint, even cleaning the filter after every load does not stop all of the lint. It has been in use probably over 10 years. After everything was back together, it runs like a well oiled sewing machine and has been drying well. I did return the parts unopened. This would not have been so successful without the videos. Cleaned out a lot of lint. Dryer still won't heat at all. What part is needed and where is it on the machine.

Thank you for your question. There are a number of parts that you can check to see if they are not working. Your door switch, your thermostats, your heating element, and your thermal fuses. I would suggest testing your thermal fuses first. You have two of them. One attached to your heating element and one in your blower area. You can test all of these parts with a multi meter. I am not getting power to the timer. Dryer starts and runs, but will not shut off.

It seems that the heater is not cycling because I put my heater checker inside of the unit and it was like 285 degrees and you could not touch the back of the unit without getting burned. I was just wondering if this high-limit thermostat on the heating element could be the problem?

Thanks for your question. It would be worth testing the thermostats, the temperature switch, and the thermal fuses for continuity with a multimeter to see if they have continuity. Replace anything that does not have continuity.

The dryer seems to be running fine but isn't heating. I've also noticed that the timer isn't moving while the dryer is running. I don't know if this helps narrow the problem down or not.Thanks

Hello Art, thank you for writing. The overheating may be caused by a faulty High Limit Thermostat. This part number PS11740647 is the compatible replacement for your model. You may need to replace the Heating Element as well, part number PS11740682. It is not recommended to use the dryer in this condition. Good luck with your repair!

We just replaced the wp303396 and wp307473. Dryer worked great for couple of days and now exactly same problem as before replacing. Any input on what could be causing and what needs to be done to fix? Thanks

HI Debra, Thank you for the question. As a safety precaution these parts can blow when the dryer is over heating. In most cases the hose leading to the air vent outside is blocked. You can make sure the hose is laying flat with no dips or bends as it can collect lint and condensation. Also check to make sure no critters have decided to take up residence in there.You can also open up the cabinet and vacuum out any lint build up and dust. Hope this helps!
