Replace auger motor for Ice Dispenser
I followed the guidance and instruction that was given by the video provided through Parts Select.
The auger setup was a little different than what was shown in the video but not a difficulty to manage and manipulate.

The problem came when trying to attach the Fork for the auger to the motor. The threads on the shaft of the auger motor were stripped and the Fork would not tighten down on it properly to work the auger.

I then took the old motor shaft out and used it to replace the shaft in the new motor. After replacing I put the Fork on the shaft and further secured it with a left thread nut. This has worked for now but I am not sure it will last as this is a modification that I have not seen used.

I was very disappointed that the new motor shaft was defective and considering the price paid I would have thought that quality control for the build and assembly would be of higher conduct.

I don't blame Parts Select per se, but I would suggest that the company be a little more attentive to the suppliers of the parts that are offered.

Motor out, ice not dispencing.
The only thing I would add is that the greatest difficulty is removing the fork from the motor shaft. I used vise grip pliers but only after spraying with WD40 and letting soak for a good while. The amount of rust will dictate how much WD40 and how long you have to let it sit. After that the rest was quite easy.
Since my refrigerator was fully stocked, I removed the motor assembly, turned ice maker off and let refrigerator run while I worked on replacing the new motor. replacing/ removing motor assembly only took about 5 minutes. Replacing the motor took approximately 30 minutes.

dispensed water but not cubes/crushed ice.
removed 3 screws with 1/4 " nut driver, unplugged 2 plugs by prying out on side tabs, removed bracket and motor. Used vice grips to hold motor shaft and used screwdriver to turn auger fork clockwise and remove. Unplugged two connectors from motor. removed 3 screws with 1/4" nut driver to remove motor. changed rubber boot from old motor to new. Reversed procedures to install new motor on bracket, auger fork, bracket in freezer, etc. Only difficulty getting both hands in narrow freezer compartment. Still didn't work, called repairman. When he got here I showed him the problem and lo and behold, now it would not dispense water. He diagnosed it as a bad motherboard, replaced it and all good now. Motherboard $150, diagnose and labor $90, but it is all good now and I even have a spare motor. The failing mother board causes strange howling noises at times and we discovered the compressor fan had also stopped working and in a short while I would have had a bad problem. Caught it just in time!!!

Ice dispenser was not dispensing ice
I unplugged the fridge before I did the repair. Took out the ice bin, then I took out the two screws located at each side of the plate that holds the dispenser motor using a nut driver. I then disconnected the whole assembly from the wiring harness in the freezer. Took out the two screws (one on top and one on the bottom) that holds the plastic back cover of the assembly, popped out the back cover. I used the hack saw to cut the shaft of the motor because the auger drive has a reverse thread and won't come off from the motor. I then took out the three screws that hold the motor to the plate and disconnected the wiring that's attached to it noting which wire go where. Put in the new motor, the auger drive, reconnected the wires, put the back cover on, reconnected the wiring harness to the freezer and attached the whole assembly in the freezer. Done!

Ice Cube Dispencer Would Not Turn
Dispencer quit working a year ago, but still still dispenced water. I talked to a service technician about it. He told me the electric motor was froze up, so I orderd a new one. When it arrived I installed it in about 20 minnutes, tried the dispencer and still would not work but this time the water would not dispence eather and this time I noticed the fan quit running and the light went dim when I tried to dispence ice. So I read the customers diagnosis and repares every thing pointed to the main control board, orderd the part and water filter. When they arrived in three days I watched installing this part video and it took me 20 minnutes to install and every thing works fine.

Hi Vernon, Thank you for the question. With the auger motor not running you will want to check to see if there is power to it. If there is power going to the motor and it is not running it will need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

The drive yoke for the auger drive is loose and can be turned by hand. Will not turn auger and dispense ice, cube or crushed. Is the a nut missing or is it just stripped? Can't seem to tighten or loosen yoke. What part should i order or can i add a nut? Thanks for your help. Barry

My ice maker no longer dispenses ice. When I select "cubed" on the freezer door panel and activate the dispenser, the auger does not operate and the freezer fan shuts off, but eventually starts running again. I am thinking the auger motor needs to be replaced. Please advise.
For model number GE GSS25JERFBB

Hello, Thank you for your question. If it appears you are getting only either crushed or cubed ice from the dispenser, check the following: • It is normal to get a slight amount of crushed or broken ice cubes before or while dispensing cubed ice. This is most common after crushed ice was used and you then select cubes. The remaining chips in the crusher blades or the bottom of the bucket get picked up as cubed ice is dispensing. • When cubed ice is selected, dispensing cubes requires energizing a lever behind the ice bucket to open a flap and allow whole cubes to come out. If an ice cube gets behind the ice bucket, this can prevent the lever from working. Remove the ice bucket and check for ice that may have fallen behind the bucket. • If no ice cubes are behind the bucket, try to dispense ice with the bucket removed. Shut the door, press the ice dispenser and listen for a loud snapping noise. If no snap is heard service will be needed. If you hear a snap, reinsert the bucket and try Cubed ice again. If still no cubes, then check for frozen ice in the bucket. To remove and check the ice bucket: 1. Pull the ice bin out by lifting it up in front and sliding it forward. 2. Check for and remove clumped or shaved ice in the bin. 3. If ice remains, run the bin under warm water until the ice melts completely. Dry the bin thoroughly. 4. Reinstall the ice bin by pushing it all the way back against the freezer wall. 5. Allow time for Icemaker to cycle again – to make cubes. 6. Select CRUSHED ICE and then CUBED ICE. 7. Try the dispenser again Here is a link from our website that you may reference if this is not this issue, https://www.partselect.com/Repair/Refrigerator/Not-Dispensing-Ice/.I hope this helps. I was looking at the parts list and was wondering if you sell the assembly as a whole. I see there the auger motor and the it breaks down into all the parts but i would rather buy its all together. When i opened mine up is was filled with ice. Im sure the motor just burnt out. If you could send me a part number for the complete set up that would be great.

Hello Ray, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the Micro Switch, Part Number: PS8259956 before replacing the board. The dispenser switch is what tells your refrigerator that it is ok to dispense ice. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!
