My ice maker stopped dispensing ice i removed the whole tray and tried to spin the u shaped part that turns the spiral auger and could not get the u shaped part to move either way what do i need to do to make repair

Hi Bill,
Thank you for your question. You actually should not be able to freely move the augur as it is controlled by the motor and if the motor is not engaged then your augur should not move. I would suggest first taking a look at your dispenser solenoid. Then you should take a look at your augur motor as well. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

The dispenser auger drive is stripped from the motor shaft. How can i remove it?

Hi Neil,
Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. For this job you will need a 5/16th nut driver, a small flat blade screw driver, a pair of pliers and a large screw driver. First, open the freezer door and remove the top shelf to reveal the auger drive coupler. To remove it, you will need to take out the auger motor cover assembly. Use the 5/16th nut driver to remove the screw on the left hand side. Once the screw has been removed, push up to release the auger motor assembly from the side bracket. Then disconnect the plugs by lifting the tabs with a flat head screw driver. With the plugs removed you can now remove the auger assembly. Before removing the auger dispenser drive coupler from the assembly, use some WD40 to loosen the coupler from the shaft. Let it soak for a few minutes and then put the pliers on the right hand side of the shaft, so it will be against a hard surface. Then use the larger screw driver to turn the coupler clockwise in the direction of the pliers to loosen it. Once it has been loosened, you may remove it from the shaft. To install the new auger dispenser drive coupler, place the pliers on the shaft on the left side and thread the coupler onto the shaft counter clockwise. Use the large flat head screw driver to tighten it. Once you have tightened the new auger dispenser drive coupler connect the plugs back on to it and insert the assembly in the opening on the right. Then use the 5/16th inch screw driver to secure the screw on the left hand side. Reinsert the top shelf and slide it into place. Then put the ice bucket back into place. You may now close the door and plug the refrigerator back in. Everything should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Ice dispenser was not dispensing ice
I unplugged the fridge before I did the repair. Took out the ice bin, then I took out the two screws located at each side of the plate that holds the dispenser motor using a nut driver. I then disconnected the whole assembly from the wiring harness in the freezer. Took out the two screws (one on top and one on the bottom) that holds the plastic back cover of the assembly,popped out the back cover. I used the hack saw to cut the shaft of the motor because the auger drive has a reverse thread and won't come off from the motor. I then took out the three screws that hold the motor to the plate and disconnected the wiring that's attached to it noting which wire go where. Put in the new motor, the auger drive, reconnected the wires, put the back cover on, reconnected the wiring harness to the freezer and attached the whole assembly in the freezer. Done!
The motor shaft stripped and the drive auger spun in place instead of driving the auger to rotate. I had to purchase an entire motor even though the motor itself worked fine. The shaft being stripped had to be hacked off to get the motor out of the assembly. New motor installed, new drive auger installed. Works fine.
By reading another customers tip I decided that my problem was the exact same. I had to order the entire motor not just the auger because the motor shaft was stripped. Once you remove the motor, hold the shaft with a pair of vise grips and use a screw driver to turn the auger off clockwise. The threads are reversed. The new auger screws easily onto the new motor counterclockwise and installing back into the fridge was a snap.
Unplug refrigerator. Use nutdriver to take two srews out that were holding on the housing. Unplug electric plug and pull out motor and housing. Use hacksaw to cut thru auger holder. Motor will be free to take off,disconnect two wires. Use nutdriver to take out three srews holding motor. Take back cover off and put new motor in cover and reverse procedure. Used new auger wih new motor. Saved big bucks by during this job myself.
