We heard a horrible grinding noise just after starting the machine TWO DAYS before Christmas. On a whim, I disassembled the lower spray arm assembly right down to the wash impeller. Read more ge pump housing was in two pieces, and judging by the look of it and how those two pieces were fitting together, felt something must be wrong with them. I ordered a new discharge pump housing unit and a few extra parts just to be sure, and after 30 minute install of the new parts, the dishwasher is back to life. A $65 shot in the dark repair by a non-repairman vs. a new dishwasher... I'll take the shot in the dark. Thanks PartSelect!! I'm on to ordering a new utensil basket now!!

I took the lower pump assembly apart to find the problem. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to remove the cover. In the center, the assembly is held together with a round plastic nut about 1.5 inches in diameter - simply rotate it counter-clockwise to remove. I then removed the pump housing and found the impeller broken in two ... Read more and the disk that was supposed to be attached to the top of the pump housing broken off. This was causing the noise and greatly reduced efficiency of the pump. I replaced the impeller and upper pump housing (bought the gasket too since it is hard to remove the old one) and put everything back together using the diagrams provided on the site. While many rate this repair as "easy" - it is only after you figure everything out! If you knew exactly what you were doing, the project could be done in 10 minutes. I had to study the diagram and it took me some time to disassemble, figure out what was wrong, read posts, order parts and reassemble. I also replaced the handle which had broken on one side which was simple. Part select is outstanding - I've used this site for my fridge, oven and now dishwasher and have avoided expensive service calls. If you are technically inclined and patient, you can repair your own appliances.

Had a repairman come to clean out all the food that had gathered at the base. Once he showed me how to take the spinner off I was able to order the parts and install them in no time. It works great now. Repairman and parts cost me $100, better than buying a new one.

After I figured out how to remove the spray arms, and filter guard (that was the hardest part) it was a piece of cake. Just a matter of snapping the spray arm into the filter guard, and replacing it the dishwasher, and tightening it with the screw in retainer. Upper arm was also easy to replace after removing the top rack.

I TOOK THE INSIDE PARTS ABOVE THE MOTOR APART AND TRIED TO CLEAN ALL THE CALCIUM AND MINERAL DEPOSITS THAT WERE PRVENTIN WATER FROM GETTING THROUGH. THERE WAS A LOT OF CALCIUM. MOST OF IT i WAS ABLE TO CLEAN AFTER A LOT OF SCRAPING AND SOAKING IN VINEGAR AND CLR. THE VINEGAR WAS THE MOST EFFECTIVE OF THE TWO.
i BROKE THE FILTER ... Read more GUARD WHEN I TOOK IT APART. I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED ONL.INE BEFORE i START IT. THE SECONDARY FILTER ASSEMBLY WAS TO FAR GONE DUE TO MY MISHANDLNG AND HEAVY DEPOSITS INSIDE THE FILTERS. PUTTING IT BACK WITH THE NEW PARTS WAS EASY BUT I HAD TO SUBSITUTE SCREWS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL ONES WOULD NO LONGER HOLD TWO PARTS TOGETHER. THE PARTS WERE LEAKING TO MUCH WATER. ONCE I HAD IT BACK TOGETHER THE SECOND TIME IT WORKED FINE. HOWEVER I HAD REALIZED THAT THE O-RING WAS NOT MISSING (MY BAD EYES DID NOT SEE IT IN PLACE AND SO I THOUGHT I HAD LOST IT). i EMAILED PARTS SELECT FOR A RETURN AUTHORIZATION BUT NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. MAYBE I NEED TO GIVE THEM A FEW MOR DAYS. THE O-RING COST $3.76 AND MY WIFE WILL NOT BE HAPPY TIL I GET THAT BACK. PARTS SELECT DIAGRAM AND PARTS PHOTOS AND ANOTHER WEBSITE WERE A BIG HELP..
