thank you for the video--very clear, responsible, applicable although the illustration was not exactly of our kind of light. the bulb was exactly like the one Hotpoint used in its microwave made in 1989! I will come back to you for parts in the future. (You have the model # from my original order.)

Under the microwave there are two light bulbs that light up the top of the oven/range.
Last week I removed the glass cover that was held in by one screw and removed the burnt out light bulb. I ordered the bulb and left the glass cover off until the bulb arrived. I had to wait until this evening to put the glass cover back on and fasten the screw because I have a window right next to the oven and the sun streaming in made it too difficult for me to see how to put the glass back in and replace the screw.

The old handle had broken. DESIGN FLAW WITH GE MICROWAVES. I have replaced them on 3 different ovens!
Thankfully I read someone else's report. I remove the top screw with ease and then pried off the cover surronding the glass panel enough to get access to the lower screw and removed it. Then I just screwed the screws back into the new handle and snapped the plastic covering back in place and "Bob's your uncle"

Original door handle broke off
I read some of the previous blogs on same problem. Followed same steps others took before me and I was done in 5 minutes! Opened the microwave door. Removed the top screw that was visible and then removed the ring around inside door frame by using a simple butter knife to get it going carefully. Removed the hidden screw on bottom of door . Replaced Handle, screwed in top and bottom , attached plastic seal around door by snapping it back in place. Done

broken door handle
Just as those before me have described, it was very simple. Just open the microwave oven door, gently pry off the plastic ring (note: don't try to operate microwave without ring in place as it will not work), remove the existing screws, replace with new handle, screws, and finally ring which snaps back into place. The most troubling part of the repair, was the cost of the handle. At $60 plus international banking fees, they really have you over a barrell. But I suppose better than the cost of a replacement microwave.
