Crosley Freezer Defrost Thermostat

This refrigerator defrost thermostat is a genuine OEM part and is sourced directly from the manufacturer. Located on the back wall of the freezer section in the refrigerator, the defrost thermostat is used to regulate the appliances temperature to keep the refrigerator cold and constant. The part is made of plastic, and has a 4 inch terminal on the white lead and a 6 inch terminal on the red lead. A refrigerator defrost thermostat may need to be replaced if the appliance is experiencing temperature related issues such as: too cold, too warm, frost buildup, not running, or running too long.

freezer would not defrost
My freezer would freeze up and not allow cold air to refrigerator side. First I took off bottom face plate, located the timer on left side bottom, removed the two screws and unpluged the timer. Replaced the timer with new one. Second I removed all food from freezer. Took of back of freezer wall with nut driver. Located the thermostat which was very easy to remove. Just one clip holding thermostat. Unplugged the two wires from the old thermostat and plugged in new wires. Thanks to Partselect.com, the parts were an exact match. Very easy to do. Saved my tons of money. Freezer and refer works like new.

freezer would run then thaw then freeze. tap on the control knob, it would start running again
Easy fix. I unplugged the freezer, unload items in freezer. took out shelves and baskets, Pulled off the control knob then removed all screws. removed inside panel, replaced part exactly as I took out old part. Put the panel back on, put everything back in place. Plugged freezer back in and turned the knob to 3. Let freezer run for a day to see if I ordered the correct part. Problem is fixed. Thank you, PartSelect for making it so easy to find, order the correct part and for all the customers input to make the repair easy.

Fault in defrost circuit caused ice buid-up, decreased air flow, and elevated temp. led to a thaw.
After observing defrost timer go into (and out of), defrost cycle, I checked continuity of heating element. Since heater coil was intact (79 Ohms of resistance), I figured the defrost thermostat (aka bi-metal therm.), had to be at fault. The new part ($17.00), proved my suspicions correct. As I sought to determine if everything worked, I had to wait for the temp. to drop below the defrost therm. set point before I would see the heater coil get hot.To avoid the costly failure in future, I bought a Chaney wireless therometer with two remote sensors. Refrigerator would not get cold or would freeze everything, no control
unplugged and removed the inside panel where the control switch was located. Unplugged the switch and replaced it with the new switch and put everything back together and plugged the refrigerator back in and set the control. Refrigerator is working likes it's new again.
