Dryer Timer Knob not advancing properly.
I thought the dryer timer had gone bad, but was probably just the knob. Exact parts on this site. Pulled dryer out at angle to access back. Removed the three top screws and the front panel easily pulled off. Removed knob to release the part and realized that the knob was probably the problem! Broken plastic.... I still replaced the dryer
... Read moretimer since the dryer is 2014. Took photo to ensure all wires replaced in same spots. Both parts had a letter with the wire color as well. I watched a youtube video and knew I had to rotate the timer counterclockwise to remove it from the panel - two slots hold it onto the panel. I pulled the wires one at a time, some needed pliers to remove. Installed wires on new part, installed timer on panel clockwise, re-attached front panel. When I re-installed the knob, it failed. I ordered the knob from here and used the signal knob temporarily until it arrived. Works great with new knob.

Both the start switch and timer switch had become old and worn out.
After unplugging the unit, I simply replaced them, matching each replacement connector on the unit. It was actually nothing special and the replacement components being identical left out a lot of guesswork.
Removed 3 screws that hold on front plate. Snapped out timer and replaced with new one. Attached one wire at a time from old timer to new timer. Reattached front panel and put on new knob. You can also watch on utube.

Timer was frozen.
First I unplugged the dryer. Then I removed the back panel and removed the front knob from the timer. Following the instructions provided with the part, I removed the wires one at a time from the old timer and connected them to the new one. After reassembling the dryer ...........it worked perfectly !!!

The dryer only provided heat on the timed settings - on other settings, the drum rotated but there was no heat
The repair is straightforward. Three phillips head screws along the top on the backside hold the control panel in place. Once the panel is loosened, the timer can be lifted from its mounting. Holding the new timer in one hand, carefully remove wires one at a time from the old timer and placing them on matching points on the new timer.

Plastic Shaft Broke
My husband un-screwed a few screws to take the cover off then just rewired the new timer and put the cover back on. I actually had an easier experience with this website than the actual GE website, which I used prior to partselect, and ordered the wrong part. Thanks and I will definately refer and use this site again. AWESOME!!

replace timer and knob
removed back panel, exchanged wires on old timer to new. Do this one at a time as there is no color chart to follow. Timer clips back in. Used a little screw to lock it in. I have a GE dryer and have replaced the knob for the timer due to a crack in the "d"shaped fitting and now it is cracked again and will not turn. The "d" shaped shaft is now more rounded and needs replacing, especially after having to use pliers to turn when knob broken. Please advise on part number for replacing d shaped shaft on timer and another replacement knob. Thanks!

The dryer will not start in certain spots on the timed dryer settings and does work in other spots. It will not start in the 40 min and higher

Thank you for your inquiry. There are a couple of parts that you should test to see if they are working correctly. Check your rotary start switch, your door switch, and your interlock switch. If all of those parts are just fine, you may have to test your timer as well to see if that part is malfunctioning. Good luck.

I turn the timer knob and it just spins around. There is no clicking like it usually makes. I managed to get the dryer running but the timer did not advance. It stayed in the same spot. I believe my timer is shot. The knob is not broken and still fits onto the timer but the timer just goes around and it does not connect and when i hit start nothing happens.

Hello Craig, Thank you for your inquiry. You can remove the timer and try turning the shaft manually to see if it is spinning freely, you can also test it with a multimeter. Hope this helps!

Our GE Dryer shuts off prematurely during a cycle We have called repair in and they have changed everything and to no avail no one can find the problem. However, the only thing they did not replace was the timer mechanism. Could this ve a part of the problem. When this problem happens, it seems the the timer dial continues to run but the dryer does not run. After we let it sit for a few minutes it then restarts and will run for a while before shutting down again. Can you help. The unit is about 4-5 years old.
