Hotpoint frig manufactured in aug. 1989. Double row of coils in freezer; both rows nearly covered in ice; neither frig nor freezer cold. Replace defrost thermometer and/or heater element or is it shot? Motor runs good.

Thank you for the inquiry. You should check your Defrost Timer to see if it is malfunctioning or not. You can test it with a multi-meter. Usually this is the main culprit for having no cooling in both your fridge and freezer for your model. I hope this helps!

Refrigerator will not stop running even if i turn temp control to a lower setting. Only way to stop is to turn (control) to off position.

Hello Martin, thank you for contacting us. If the fridge is constantly running you will want to pull it from the wall and inspect the coils for dust. If it builds up the compressor will constantly run. Also it could be a defrost issue, if the fridge stays in the defrost cycle for too long or too often it would constantly run to try and maintain temp. You can test the defrost thermostat with a multi-meter to determine if it is at fault. Good luck with the repair!
