Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This washer lid assembly is a genuine replacement part designed to cover the tub opening of select Whirlpool washing machines. It plays a critical role in sealing the washer during operation, preventing water from escaping and ensuring the agitator functions properly throughout the wash cycle. The lid securely latches to maintain safety and efficiency, and its durable construction supports long-term use. It replaces previous versions and is compatible with various Whirlpool models. Common signs that the lid assembly may need replacement include visible cracks, difficulty latching, or general wear. For safe installation, unplug the washer and follow manufacturer guidelines to remove the old lid and secure the new one in place.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Simply put, this means that the company who made your appliance is also supplying the replacement part for it.

expensive part
The part arrived and was falling out of the box, but fortunately not damaged. It went on to the washer easily. Washer is back to working. so basically the part did the trick, but should not have broke to begin with. From what I understand it is a design defect that Whirlpool is not repairing. So my gripe is not with the appliance parts company it is with whirlpool.

Replace Cracked Whirlpool Cabrio Washing Machine Lid
This is a very simple repair. My lid was severely cracked on the back left corner where there seems to be a lot of pressure/torque required to shut the lid. There is a metal L-shaped "tab" that inserts into the lid on both sides of the back edge of the lid. The lid is attached to these metal tabs with two screws for each side. My crack
... Read moreed lid had resulted in the lid breaking off of the metal tab with the screws still anchored into the metal tab.
Make sure screws have been removed from the metal tabs on both sides. Do not remove metal tabs- leave them attached to the washing maching (otherwise, you will not be able to attach the lid back onto the machine). Slide the lid over the tabs. There are square-shaped spaces along the edge of the lid where the tabs slide into the lid. Re-screw the screws into the lid, attaching the lid to the tabs through pre-drilled holes on the sides of the lid. It may take a little time to make sure the screws are properly inserted into the lid and tab screw holes. Tighten up and you're finished.

The lid on the washer on the left side busted out around the hinge and I was wondering if I will need to replace with hinge when replacing the lid as I am not sure what caused it to bust at the hinge.

How do I replace seal around lid closest to the display
For model number WTW8040DW
Hello Eugene, thank you for contacting us. First, remove the front of the washer by pulling it forward. Slightly push the lid up and push it back to unlock the washer's top front. Press the two spring clips on the underside of the washer top to free the control panel interface. Unscrew the back metal plate of the control panel, and you can remove the panel and replace the seal, part number PS10062670. We hope that helps!
