Hi, the microwave has power to the panel, but when on makes a louder sound than usual and doesn't heat. The light comes on and the turntable turns. Might it be the diode?
For model number YWMH31017FS0
Hello Gary, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Diode and the Magnetron. Before doing the repair or testing, the capacitor will need to be discharged to avoid a shock. The capacitor can hold a charge even after the appliance has been unplugged. We hope this helps.

Our Whirlpool microwave has an error code F1E4. What is the procedure for replacing the control panel? I tried to first remove the grill to access the fuse but could not remove the grill. How many screws have to be removed to remove the grill? I have removed six screws and the grill still won't lift off.
For model number YWMH31017FS0
Hello John, thank you for contacting us. F1E4 on this microwave means that you have a stuck relay on the main display control board. Replace the display board PS16620226, if the reset does not work. You can replace the control board by unlocking the locks of the control panel from the bottom and the side. After unlocking, you will have the access to the control board. Disconnect the all wires from the board. Replace it with the new one. You do not need to open the whole grill to replace the control board. We hope this helps!

Hello. There is something broken with where the door latches. It does not recognize that the door is closed anymore. Is there a way to open up the front to see what it might be?
For model number YWMH31017FS0
Hello Liz, Thank could be an issue with door Switches. You will need to open up the cabinet of the appliance. If you are not familiar with Microwave repair we suggest a repair man as the appliance can hold a dangerous charge even when not plugged in and the capacitor will need to be discharged to avoid shock. Before you begin any repair, please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the grill. With the screws removed, open the microwave oven door then the slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove. Next remove the control panel mounting screw then lift the control panel up to detach. Then remove the screw holding the inner access panel and then release the panel from the retaining clips. Now remove the screws holding the switch assembly. Depress the release tab and the actuator to detach the switch you are replacing. Disconnect the wire connector to fully release the old switch. Install the new door switch by first connecting the wire connector. Now position the new switch in the assembly snap it into place. Realign the switch assembly on the frame and secure it with the screws. Reinstall the inner access panel securing it with the screw. Now insert the control panel tabs to the slots in the frame and push the panel down. Secure it with the mounting screw. Insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right. Shut the oven door and then secure the grill with the screws. Plug the power cord back in and the microwave should now work. We hope this helps!

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 P

hillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time.
