Microwave has power but sparks when trying to heat item. Only sparks for a second then nothing does.
For model number WMH53520AS1
Hi Randy,
Thank you for your question. Sparks can occur if metal objects are placed inside the microwave, or if the microwave is damaged inside. Also, if the magnetron and diode are defective and not working properly, they will spark. Before removing and inspecting the magnetron and diode with a multimeter on the Rx1 setting, unplug the microwave from the electrical outlet. Before checking these parts, you will also need to release the charge from the capacitor. We have included a link on how to release the charge. When checking the magnetron, touch the probes to the terminals, this should produce a reading of two to three ohms of resistance. Next, move one probe to touch the metal housing of the magnetron. This test should not indicate that continuity is present. If the results of your test do not match the results above, you will need a replacement magnetron. When testing the diode, touch the probes to the terminals. Next, reverse the probes to check for continuity in the other direction. You should receive a reading that shows continuity in one direction, but not the other direction. If your diode does not show continuity, or shows continuity in both directions, you will need a replacement high voltage diode. We hope this helps!

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 P

hillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time.
