Ice maker stopped producing ice
Emiter blinking red; ice maker stopped working. Called appliance repair, said electronic control boards needed to be replaced. Quoted me $275, including parts. Ordered part at partselect.com, installed in 15 min and ice maker started producing ice. Also discovered on other online forums that this part is a common failure on these model refrigerators. Very easy to swap out, plug & play. Make sure to unplug appliance before performing repair due to shock risk.

Ice maker not working
Well I changed out the optical boards which I thought were the problem and the ice maker is still not making any ice. I can see the ice makers fingers rotating but there is no water entering through the tube. I jumped the water manifold in the back and water comes out but I cant figure out what is not telling it to run water and fill the ice tray. Any ideas would be appreciated I guess i'll replace the ice maker next. Thanks in advance.

Ice maker auger motor runs but wouldn't dispense ice
My Kitchenaid side by side freezer has an ice dispenser on the door that would not dispense ice. The electronic door opened and the motor would come on with a repeated clicking noise. The Auger would turn with a few ice cubes in the bin, but not under load. After ruling out a clogged chute, I figured that the motor was stripped. The rod that turns the auger is a hexagon shaped piece, much like a screw driver you would use with your drill. After years of breaking down ice, it stripped the hexagon key in the motor, and would just spin under load. Now, PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PART. I looked online for a repair and saw a very similar motor repair that involved taking off the front panel and electronics. I did this, and ran into a solid piece of plastic with no way to get to the motor. I then looked at the inside of the freezer door more carefully. About 2/3 down I saw a small panel held in place by four 1/4 inch hex nuts. What was a 15 minute job, cost me over an hour removing and replacing the front of the freezer. Anyway, the replacement motor fixed the problem without a hitch, and now we have ice. Of note, this is the second repair of this ice maker system, after first having to replace the ice maker itself. And, this the second Kitchenaid built in refrigerator of this model as our first had ice maker issues and was returned as a recall. It is only 5 years old.

Plastic Ice maker button broke from pushing it too hard
Replaced the ice bin button by removing the ice bin, turning it upside down and dumping the ice, and replacing the pastic part that broke with the right size socket. It was very easy. Part was easy to find at PartSelect. Would have just left it broken if I could not find the part as a repair person would have charged $100 just to come to the house and I would have had to take off work. With PartSelect, it cost me $15 and I fixed it myself in under 10 minutes. Way to go PartSelect!!

Ice stuck in mold. mold coating was peeling off.
Turn off water supply too ice maker and unplug the fridge power. using a nut driver remove one bottom screw from the bottom, near the front. The other two from the side atop the ice mold. (loosen screws and ice maker will lift up and off.)
I set the ice maker on the counter, snapped of the front cover by hand. using a phillips driver, remove two screws near the bottom corners.(they go through the circuit board into the ice mold)
circuit board in one hand, other end of ice mold in the other, slowly pull apart about 1 inch. remove the silver colored "on, off" bar at the end by snapping the retainer out of the ice mold. (the silver bar stays with the circuit board end)
Watch how the ice guide(white fingers stationary on side of ice mold) hooks too the ice mold on each end. swap ice guide to new ice mold, insert three guide pins on end into holes on the circuit board, while holding ice guide onto ice mold, watch rotation bar while inserting into motor.(it only splines one way.) when each piece is lined up, simply push together and reinstall two screws. snap circuit board cover into place. reinstall ice maker into freezer in reverse order.

Ice Maker stripper arm cracked
This was a pretty easy repair...I removed the retaining screws and slid the assembly off its tracks. Disconneting the wiring hardness was a pain but after a few minutes I had that off (use gloves, it gets cold in the freezer after a minute)

Once I had the unit completely out of the freezer the replacement part took only minutes to replace.

Reversed the process putting the ice maker back in - a few hours later my ice buck was full again.

Simple repair - well worth the effort.

Old motor was not resetting back to proper position halting ice production.
Removed the three motor screws pulled off old motor put new motor in place replaced screws and re-installed. It was producing ice three hours later. I originally tried to obtian these parts directly from Whirlpool in which twice they shipped me the wrong parts. Finally gave up on them and entered the whilrpool part number which crossreferenced to new part number which was correct the first try. Thank you!

The ice maker in the door wouldn't dispense ice.
i took the cover plate off the inside of the freezer under the ice bin[two screws] then I disconnected the wiring harness, then removed the four screws to remove the motor and then put the new motor in and the ice dispenser dispensed ice. Less than 1/2 hour with only needing a nut driver, and a flashlight.

Ice Dispenser worked poorly causing frequent frost buildups and poor dispenser operation
This built-in model requires complete removal of stainless steel door "Cover". A trim piece that covers the screws on the left side of the door requires lowering the refrigerator on to the rolling legs and moving it forward for access. The tipover strap on top of the refrigerator must be removed first. One the door is slowly lowered and then pulled out you need to remove the trim piece then remove the screws on the bottom, top, and lft side. Then remove the four screws from the internal side of the dispenser. With assistance slowly pull the entire front cover from the door which gives access to the internal electronic pad. Be very careful with the door cover as the edges are razor sharp stainless steel. Remove the electronic pad (4 socket screws) and move it to provide access to the motor bracket assembly. Remove assembly (2 screws) and replace with new. This includes removing the connector plug which came off easily. The replacement assembly was a new design from the original which appeared to be much better design. This was very simple to replace. Now the hardest part is "popping" the front door cover back on the front which is a two person job. I taped the trim attachment strips to the inside of the cover (left and bottom sides had the strip) so the screw holes would line up when the cover is replaced. All four sides must slide on at the same time with a slight advantage to the side with the handle. Note: this can be dangerous because of the sharp edges and very precise fit...a blood donation was required because of an errant hand and the quick snap in popping the door in place. Once its back on, reverse the process of replacing the screws and carefully moving back in to position and raising back up to previous height. I had very little information on how to do this so I did it slowly and deliberately so it took me about two hours. The dispenser now works better then ever and I have had no frost build up....I wish I had done it 4 years ago.

Ice Door Leaking
Remove the unit cover by unsnapping from the bottom. Remove the face plate on the switches. The ice door simply snaps off the closing mechanism. The problem I have is that the original door included a heat trace element (keeps the back of the door warm to limit condensation). The new part was simply a new seal. I clipped the leads to the het trace (turn off the fridge before you do that) and put in the new door. When the heat ids on in the house there is no problem with condensation but on warmer days its pretty bad. I cannot find a replacement part with the heating element and have contacted Whirpool. THey haven't responded as of yet.
