broken nylon retention pin in upper oven door
Removed 3 lower screws holding the upper oven inside door panel to the door frame. There is enough flexibility in the panel to coax it away from the frame at least an inch. Removed the old nut plate from inside the door and replaced it with the new one. Screwed in the retention pin and 2 washers while holding the nut in place. Assembled the 3 lower screws to complete the assembly.

The Upper oven the lower element went out.
Unscrewed the prongs to the old element. When the new element showed up I put the new element back in again. Had no problem with the replacement and my oven works great.

The oven coil burnt out visibly sparking at the failure point on the coil
This model has a top oven and a bottom. The repair was to the top oven. I shut off the electricity to the oven at the circuit breaker box.I removed the grates and unscrewed the two screws holding the burner in place. I gently pulled the burner free along with its two attached wires. I removed the two screws that retained the connections to the burner. I installed the new burner in the reverse order. Turn on the circuit. Good to go.

A plastic bowl was placed on the hot eye and melted.
The old eye was lifted up, hinge screw removed, and three screws removed from the eye that connected lines to it. Did just opposite for installation. Very easy. The hardest problem was finding an eye with three screw-type connections.

Door strike was broken
I called the local GE appliance & sales place, informed them that a friend of mine had found the part on Partselect.com, after they told me the part was no longer made, could not be found. My friend that found Partselect was going to install it for me himself but then I decided it might be best to have the dealer do it, in case something went wrong. I can not buy another stove because they no longer make the upper/lower stove like this model, I would have to rip out my cabinets! plus I do not have the money they are asking for a new stove.. Besides the fact that I LIKE this setup! 27 yrs. old, top oven was always 50 degrees off, but I know it, so not a big deal..

Replace Non-working stovetop burner unit (electric)
1.Shut off power to stove. 2. Lift up non-working burner. 3. Unscrew retaining screw that allows burner to tilt. 4. Lift burner out. 5. remove clips from ceramic holder. 6. Unscrew 3 screws holding element, write down which color is attached to which element, or label wires. 7. unpack new element, directions say to cut off and tip the leads with solder, but I re-used the old circle connectors. 8. Screw the wires back on the new element (using nutdriver) 9. place element in new ceramic holder provided, and clamp shut. 10. place element in stove top opening and screw in retaining screw (honestly I could not get this to work correctly, so I just left the element sitting in the hole). 11. Turn power back on. This could take as few as 5-10 minutes, but I allowed 1/2 hour for turning power on and off or moving the stove to unplug it.

one element suffered a small puncture where the heated element burned thru
The old burner was disconnected by unscrewing the wire connectors. The new burner was installed by reconnecting the same wire connectors although the white and red connectors had to be swapped to make the inner element go on when #2 or med switch is chosen.
