HS8031 Speed Queen Washer Dryer Combo - Instructions

Turned off water & unpluged ac power. Removed 2 screws on front panel. Removed panel. Found peices of V belt. Removed 4 screws from electric motor which allowed the belt to come out. Ordered new belt on line. Received the item in one day. Reversed the above sequence above. Now the washer is running as good as new.

Really easy popped the lid with a flat head screwdriver, then marked wires for door light and switch, took 2 5/16 bolts to remove front door, then 4 bolts also 5/16 to remove front panel but be care ful and remove drum belt then take panel and drum out. Then took a set of ring pliers to remove wheel slapped new one on.then reverse sreps to assemble.

removed front, top cabinet, drum, belt and motor. replaced idler pulley on motor. replaced motor, belt, drum and cabinet parts. test ran fine.

Researched the common problem with "dryer not turning on", and tested the top three problems. Removed the dryer front casing and door, unbolted front dryer plate. Used a volt meter on two of the temp gauges, which were fine. Removed the upper back plate of the dryer to the wiring for the knobs and buttons. Used the volt meter on the dryer start button, which was also fine. Went back around to the front and removed the door switch. Tested it with the volt meter and bingo. Replaced that part, dryer works like normal.

Once I realized the drum was to be removed, the actual repair was not difficult. Because of the location of the pulley, it's best to tilt the dryer. Snap ring pliers are required to remove the retaining ring on pulley. I pulled the damaged pulley from the bearing. A small gear puller was needed to removed the frozen bearing. Lightly oil the new bearing. Installing the drum is a challenge because of the loose belt. I used paint tape to hold the belt on the drum. Download the service manual for good exploded parts views.

This was real easy just slid the latch in front panel and attached to latch assembly to the door. The repair was about 45 seconds.

I would like to say first of all that I was amaized and pleased at how simple the ordering of this part was and while looking at the parts diagram on you website I noticed the door swing was optional and could be easily changed and the dryer came from the factory with a latch installed on both sides of the door. In our laundry room the dryer sits to the left of the washer and the door to the dryer opened to the right which has always been a slight inconvenience. . . So instead of changing out the broken part, I took the door and hinge off with my cordless screwdriver (6-8 screws) and turned it around and remounted it on the opposite side. . . Simple! I never took the new part out of the ups envelope. Now I have a spare so I taped the new part in the envelope to the back of the dryer in case I ever need it and now we have more convenience with the door swinging the correct way. Sweet deal! Removed the front of the dryer. Took out the drum. Now everything inside is easy to get to. You do not need to remove the top. Upon inspection we found that we also needed to replace both felts, teflon guides, drive belt, and both support rollers ans shafts. Basically we rebuilt the dryer. It's quiet now and working like new.

Removed front of dryer, first the lower then the upper front covers. Removed front drum support, front blower housing cover. Removed belt, and then motor with housing and blower wheel attached. Broke wheel and cover off motor, placed motor in vise to remove threaded nut from motor drive shaft (nut was seized). Reinstalled motor and belt. Installed new housing and blower wheel. Reassembled dryer. Note if old blower wheel had come off repair would have taken half the time and been significantly easier to perform.

Pulled off front of dryer because it made loud noise, lifted clothing drum removed cover for fan and order from model number on fan and replaced. 30 min with help from my son.

Push new catch in the opening, close the door and VOILA! the door stays closed. Please note that the cost of this part is exorbitant- it's worth about 50 cents but with shipping it cost about $11.00. Check your local hardware store first.

Pulled out the broken part than easily snapped the new part into place..

First thing I did was to read the great information from other customers. John from Milton's post titled "frayed v belt" was excellent; so was Joseph from Goldsboro NC under the Pump part posts. I would add the following info which wasn't readily available. The Torx/starbit size mentioned in the posts referenced is a T25 the Amana lw8203w2 I have. I bought a t25 size torx wrench at my local hardware store for $2. I got everything together --the belt took some arm strength for an amateur like me to get on. Also, would recommend gloves as some of the edges are sharp down there. Everything appeared okay and when I started the spin cycle it started then cut off. I thought maybe besides the fan belt there was electronics faulty. However, I found an amana repair guide for my model online at scribd and under the troubleshooting section, it described the cutout of the spin cycle and if the new fan belt is too tight, it will bind and the spin cycle will cut out. So I opened up the front again and worked the belt for several turns to "stretch it" and voila, it worked perfectly.

Replace with new latch.

I did a quick research online and found PartSelect to have the best price. I ordered my part on Monday 8/6 and to my tremendous surprise FedEx delivered it Tuesday 8/7!! I did not pay for overnight delivery. My son happened to come by that day and he took a small flathead screwdriver, pried the old one out and inserted the new part. Done in 5 minutes! PartSelect will be my supplier from now on.
