HMG22912 Admiral Refrigerator - Instructions

Followed the tutorial on the site and it was spot on. had the same problem as most- dirt in the ice, and then it stopped altogether. was well worth the $100 for the info/parts. would do it again in a second

It was super easy. I just cut the power to the fridge, took 3 screws out to remove the old icemaker, undid the power supply. Then I kept the supply wires, cover and ice maker arm and installed them on the new part. I plugged the supply wires back in, attached the new ice maker with a nut driver, installed the cover and arm. Turned the power back on and it's done. Just takes a few minutes!!!

Ice maker was leaking water into the bin causing it to freeze together. To repair I purchased a new Ice Maker part no PS2121513 for $101.00. I used the repair video to find out how to replace the part, the video was very helpful and enabled me to replace the ice maker in under 30 minutes. Once the new part was installed I waited 2 hours for it to start making ice, before the ice maker can operate the bi metal thermostat has to reach approx 14 degrees F. This can take longer than an hour so you have to be patient. I checked mine with a volt meter probes inserted in the T and H test points on the front of the timer assembly. If you read a voltage of 110/120 volts it means the thermostat has not closed. If it takes more than 4 hours it could mean a bad connection so turn off the power and recheck the plug in harness connections. If you do not have a meter you can feel behind the timer with your fingers to see if the ice maker cup or bowl has water or ice in it. Turn off the power first.

Replaced the ice maker ass'y,for me it was easy as i have been a mechanic all my life however there was'nt any instructions with the new ice maker to explain about moving the control arm from old to new and as mine was stuck in the motor end it would have been nice to know how much force could be applied to free arm

I just removed the bottom screw, then the top 2 screws on the ice maker after shutting off the water line and unplugging the refrigerator first. The ice maker was gently allowed to lay down as i unplugged the wiring harness on the inside back of the freezer. I took the wiring harness off the broken unit by pushing the little tab down and gently pulling the harness plug. Of course, you have to get the cover off first, gently using a screw driver to get the cover past the tabs. Then just plug the old wiring harness into the new one. The most difficult part is laying down on the floor and plugging the wiring harnes back in and getting the ice maker screwed back in. My new icemaker had a bent angle connector so I had to use the old one so the hole would line up. Also, a flashlight is helpful since the refrigerator is unplugged. Also, I put my ice cream in a picnic cooler with the old ice, in case it took longer than I thought it would. Really, though, anyone who can lay on the floor and is used to taking things apart and putting them back together will find this pretty easy and take less than a half hour.

I originally replaced the inlet valve--it was cheaper. It did not solve my problem. So I ordered the icemaker for my Amana side-by-side; it came the next day! Remove ice bucket, unplug electric, even left the water on. Remove 3 screws holding the old icemaker in. The wiring harness on my fridge was too short to allow me to remove the plug from the old icemaker, so I had to remove the metal mounting plate behind the icemaker to allow me to have enough slack to turn the icemaker and depress the projection on the plug while pulling it from the socket. The icemaker comes right out then. Took off the bail and installed it on the new one. The left side is the important one that engages the mechanism while the right side is just a slave or tender that holds it in position. Plug the wiring harness plug into the new icemaker (be sure to get it in right side up and fully engage the projection on the plug into the hole on the side of the socket--that keeps it from ever working out from vibration or unintended or accidental manipulation. Place the old icemaker end cap over the new icemaker end to shield the mechanism on the left side. Remount the mounting plate to the sides of the freezer with the original 4 screws. I suggest putting a paper or something underneath your work--it is tight quarters and screws are easy to drop. A magnetic nutdriver might help here. Tighten the 4 screws, tuck the wiring harness up under the metal clip (that keeps it up and out of the way of future accidental injury or dislodging). Then use the nut driver to place the 3 original screws which hold the icemaker to the mounting plate. Start all 3, then assess for level mounting before you tighten them--a crooked or unlevel mount job will be inefficient and yield irregular ice cubes. Reinstall the ice bucket and lower the bail which detects the need for more ice and starts the process. Plug the electric back in and turn the water back on (if you shut it off). I had the first cubes in a couple of hours. It will take a while for the cycle to start, so don't worry if you don't have water flowing into the tray right away.

The disassembly was fairly easy. Just remove the three screws with a 1/4 inch nutdriver. There are two above and one below the icemaker assembly. Then disconnect the power wiring harness from the back of the motor/timer assembly.
Re-installation is just the reverse and is made much easier if you can remember where you put the screws after waiting a day or two for the replacement to arrive!

The swap was quite easy. All I had to do was remove 3 nuts and unplug the flat wire connector. I kept the old unit when I took it out in case I needed any parts, but the only thing I needed to transfer over was the Ice level wire. Very straightforward!

First I took the front cover of element off and pull the electric conne out. Next I loosened the two screws that hold the element top in place. I then removed the screw at bottom that fixed on L-angle.
And then took thermo sensor that was holed by cramp out.
Replace new ice making element as reverse order. It was very easy job.

I got the replacement ice maker the next day after I ordered it...really fast shipment which was very nice. All I had to do is unscrew 4 screws, un-hook the wire harness from the back of the old ice maker and take the old ice maker out. Then repeat the same steps in reverse to put the new on in. It took less than 10 minutes if that. Very easy to install.

First I unplugged the refrigerator. Then I removed three screws holding the ice maker using a small socket set. The hardest part was unpluggung the connector on the ice maker because of the tight fit. Then I changed the plastic cover and wire rod from the old unit to the new one and reinstalled the ice maker in reverse order. l have done repairs like this before which was good because there were no instructions provided. Reading these repair stories helped remind me how easy it was to do. I had new ice in less than one hour.

threw out the old icemaker, replaced it with the new one. just had to pry off the cap of the housing and plug the original cable to the new assembly - bingo.
I'm happy and proud - saved a large repair-bill :-)

This is 2nd of a two part troubleshooting. 1st was the inlet valve/solenoid which did not work. I then ordered the ice maker, If I would inspected the old one, I would of ordered it first as all of the coating had come off. Anyway piece of cake installing, took 3 minutes. Hint: don't get exciting if it doesn't work right away, the freezer has to reach freezing again prior water being released to it.
