Our GE dryer only works if you hold down the start button down. I tape the button down and used the door to start and stop making sure to stop before the cycle ends. Work great drying the clothes. Could the belt interlock switch be causing this issue or could it be something else. Thanks

Hi David, thank you for contacting us. If the dryer is not starting and you need tape to hold the door switch down, the issue is either the interlock switch or the door switch. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter. Before doing any tests on the parts, unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet. From our website, for the interlock switch, set the multi-meter on the Rx1 setting, touch each tester probe to each of the switch’s terminals. You should receive a reading of infinity. While the probes are still touching the terminals, press in on and hold the switch. The reading should change to zero. If you do not get this reading, it will need to be replaced. For the door switch, set the multimeter to the Rx1 setting and place the probes on the switch’s terminals. You should receive a reading of infinity.

It was pretty easy. After already taking apart the dryer to install a new belt I knew exactly my plan of action. I removed the two screws that hold the top panel of the dryer to the front panel. I then removed the top panel and removed the screws that hold the front to each side panel. I than pulled the front away from the cabinet and
... Read more drum. I put the new slides in place and installed a new felt strip. I put it back together and that was that. Very easy.
Removed the front Dryer panel. Left drum in place and lifted it up slightly to get access to motor drive. Slipped belt in place and put panel back on. This was a first attempt ever at fixing an appliance and it was no big deal.
