INSTRUCTIONS for installing Dishwasher Control Cover Replacement for this model GE Dishwasher!
For model number GDT635HSJ6SS
Hello Michael, thank you for reaching out to PartSelect. To replace the console cover follow these steps: Open the dishwasher door. Take the screws holding the dishwasher with the countertop. Remove the access panel screws using the 5/16" nut driver and disconnect the wiring harness for the control board. Now take out the door cables, before you do it make sure the door is completely closed, so when you take the cables off, the door does not fall open. Unhook the hinges and door cables from both sides of the door, then lift the door and remove the door from the dishwasher. Using a flathead screwdriver, take the vent cover off. Now take out the four screws that hold the inner and outer door panels together. There are two on each side using a 1/4" nut driver. Take the screws off, take the hinges out, and set them aside. All you have to do is pull them down and lift them out, set them aside. Hold on to the outer door and push the inner door up to separate it. Once you have it separated, you can lift the inner door off. Now grab the inner door liner so you have access to the control panel. All it does is snap off and remove the control assembly using the 1/4" nut driver to remove the four screws of it that hold it in. Take the control and slide it out. In order to get the control panel off, there is a locking tab that goes across the front that you have to unsnap. Once you have snapped the cover from all the locking tabs, you can pull the control panel off. To put the new control panel on you want to make sure that these locking tabs line up with the cutouts in the frame, then you can just lift it up into place, and make sure they all go in there along the whole length and then just push down to lock it into place. Once you have it installed, put the control back in, lint it up and push it back into place and screw them back. Then assemble the parts removed and put the dishwasher door back on the dishwasher. Didn't actually do the compete repair but got close. Pulled out dishwasher, disconnected and checked continuity on the existing heating element (about 16 ohms) the new element was also about 16 ohms. This indicates they both were working fine and no need for replacement. Next step would have been to swap the elements would have been

Holding securely, replace screws removed in step 5. Toward the end they get a little tougher to screw in. 8. Plug wire harness into new door latch. 9. Re-align dishwasher and re-secure to counter in previous position. 10. Test latch to make sure it closes properly. 11. Turn on breaker in electrical panel. The dishwasher should now function properly.
