Do you put grease in the final drive- bellow the main gear assembly?

Hello Doug, thank you for getting in touch. We suggest opening the case to check the grease. If most of the grease was lost, it will be a good idea to have the grease replaced. the bowl does not pass the dime test as far as blade clearance from the bottom of the bowl. Its at about a nickels worth .
I understand the screw in the neck is to be used to adjust the clearance. It only turns a tiny bit making no difference.
What do you suggest?

Hello Peter, Thank you for your inquiry. According to the beater to bowl clearance on page 22 of the owners manual (we have provided a link to the copy on our site) adjustments should be made
only with the flat beater in place. Gently turn screw (A) slightly counterclockwise to raise the bowl (reduced beater clearance), or clockwise to lower the bowl (increased beater clearance). A slight turn is all that is required; the full range of adjustment is achieved in just 1/2 turn of the screw. Do not rotate the screw more than 1/2 turn in either direction. If it does not adjust the clearance properly, then the issue may be with the cam, the bowl arm lift, the lift rod and the spring. Check for any loose or worn parts. Good luck with your repair.
Mixer is dropping small black bits into the bowl, not sure what they are, it has been suggested that a new seal on the gear housing should fix the problem. Given its age (15 years) would it be advisable to replace other parts while I have it apart.

Hi Doug, thank you for reaching out. The substance you are seeing is grease. This happens when the grease gets older and loses viscosity. We would recommend putting some grease on the on the planetary gears to fix the issue. We hope this solves your problem!

removed metal strap around motor housing then remove the 4 screws holding top motor cover on, then removed the 4 screws that hold gear cover in place, remove long gear that is driven by the motor gear, then with ring pliers remove ring off long drive shaft and lift off worm gears. once all gears are removed --removed all the old grease (
