The internal components of the log splitter may also fall out of alignment and cause further damage to the equipment. Use a wrench to remove the fasteners that secure the plate to the log splitter frame. Clean the mounting area and install the new plate. Reinstall the fasteners and be careful not to overtighten them as this can damage the surface of the plate.
