Steel balls serve various purposes throughout power equipment, being used within bearings, valves, pulleys, and clutches. Depending on the use for your equipment, these balls can serve different purposes, but these are designed for use within tillers and lawnmowers, and work within shift fork mechanisms, and lock/align with notches on the mating component, to prevent unwanted shifting or disengagement during operation. This kit comes with 12 steel balls and is an OEM part, without any other hardware. To avoid problems with your equipment and avoid constant repairs of its steel balls in the future, make sure that they are cleaned, lubricated and regularly inspected before and after each use. If you notice issues with gear shifting such as slipping or difficulty engaging the gear, these balls may be worn down and inoperable, and will need replacing immediately. To replace these balls, the process may look different for each model, but generally it will require a screwdriver and socket wrench to access the mechanisms. Make sure to clean and adequately lubricate the mechanisms, according to the manufacturer specifications.
