Take a decent putty knife or your handy kitchen spatular. Open microwave door and out the outside edge of the dark plastic trim panel, insert the spatula or putty knife and gently pop the panel loose from the small retaining clips. Using a flashlight, inspect the metal door frame and find the two Phillips screws holding on the door handle. Unscrew and remove door handle. Lift up on the door latch mechanism, its black plastic and has two legs that slide into the door frame. Between the two plastic poles (legs) you will find the spring, unhook if not broken from the middle of the plastic bracket. You will notice that the metal door frame has three holes. The top and bottom are for the latch mechanism to slide through. The middle is for the spring to latch into (rear or side closest to outside of the door), with the round area which is open, is there for the spring to slide into. Manually slide the door latch up and down. Replace the screws for the door handle if not already done. And reinstall the black plastic inside door trim panel gently pushing into place so that the mounting tabs click into place. Tell your wife you spent all day doing it (its about a 20 minute job) and that you saved thousands of dollars :). Insert popcorn and turn on a movie.
