High Limit Thermostat - Limit 250-40 Specifications
With this thermostat, a dryer's heating element will cut out if the internal temperature reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit. The element will kick back in when the temperature drops to 210 degrees Fahrenheit - the differential of 40 degrees.

Is there a way to test the high limit switch?
Hello Charles, thank you for your question. Set your multimeter to the R X 1 setting. Take each of your meter's probes and touch one to each terminal. You are testing for continuity, and you should receive a reading of either zero or infinity. At room temperature, testing the thermostat should produce a reading of zero. But if a thermostat is tested when it is heated to its limit, a reading of infinity should be produced. We strongly recommend that you test your thermostat at room temperature. If the test you conduct with your thermostat does not produce these results, then you should replace the component. I hope this helps!

The dryer gets really hot and blows the thermal fuse. Will replacing the high limit thermostat - limit 250-40 resolve the problem?
For model number 11086545110
Hi Mario,
Thank you for your question. It very well could. I would suggest testing your thermostats to see if they are working correctly. You can do that using a multi meter. Good luck with your repair.
I removed the old thermostat. One of the wires was fried. The new thermostat came with a new clip/connector so I cut the bad part of the wire out, stripped it back and attached the new connector. Then, I screwed the new thermostat in place and attached both connectors. The dryer has heat again. PartSelect.com got the correct part out to me in a short amount of time. Their repair help also helped me test and diagnose the problem in the first place.

While removing 21 years of coins and lint I damaged the factory installed thermostat limit switch.

The right part to fix our dryer
This was the right part for our particular problem. The installation was straightforward, but I already had all the necessary tools like a set of crimpers for the terminals.
