Product Description

In-Line Water Filter Specifications

This OEM filter measures 2.1-Inches by 2.2-inches by 12.7-Inches. It is used to reduce bad tasting water, while also lessening dirt, rust, and other sediments. It is recommended to replace this filter every six months or 2500 gallons. If performance of the filter has changed, it may need to be replaced sooner, depending on the water conditions. It is sold individually. This filter is compatible with refrigerators that do not have built-in filtration. It is used in side-by-side and top-freezer refrigerators. The filter has a new design with quick connect fittings at the end of the filter so it can be easily installed behind your refrigerator. This filter only works with plastic lines. The only tool you may need for this repair is something to cut your tubing with. To install, first turn off the water supply. The filter can now be inserted into the 1/4-Inch OD supply tube that carries water to the appliance. Now cut the tubing in a straight line (if installing for the first time, if this is a replacement you can skip this step). Push the tubing into the filter inlet until it is flush with the fitting collar. Place the filter outlet over a bucket and flush it out by turning on the water supply valve and allowing it to flow for about five minutes. Now connect the outlet of the filter to the water line going to the appliance. Turn on the water supply.

Ice bucket Auger was rusting and getting the ice dirty.
Removed the old ice bucket from the freezer and placed the ice in a plastic bag to reuse. Removed the ice bucket front cover by removing six (6) screws. Installed the old front cover to the new ice bucket by using four (4) screws. Replaced the new ice bucket in the freezer and filled it with the ice. Also replaced the water filter. The ice bucket repair was very easy and fast. Filter replacement took more time since I had to go buy some new tubing.

Replacing filter and auger/ice bucket assembly
After I realized that I needed to take the front and door off the old ice bucket (which involved removing 4 screws) and mount it on the new part (putting in those 4 screws), the job was easy. Installing the new assembly requires shoving it into place without really being able to see how or where it attaches, so I wasn't sure it worked until it produced ice a few hours later, and it did.

The filter on the fridge was more than 10 years old, but the new GE Smart filter and its adapters screwed and snapped into place easily. Subsequent filter changes will be simple - just a snap!

After market GE water filter spud fitting broke off
It originally appeared that an easy out would be required to remove ferule from piping line, but later it became necessary to cut old broken fitting off and replace with compression fitting in replacement kit. Total time to repair after all tools were on hand (needed to buy tubing cuter) was about 45 minutes.

Ice make auger rusted, unable to serve clean ice.
Replacement auger and ice bucket assembly was perfect. Just had to remove the front door/flap assembly from the old unit and screw on to the new. The water filter kit took more time to read the box instructions than it did to install. Perfect. Am very pleased with the service/value offered by PartSelect.
