My Hotpoint Electric Dryer blows hot air, but takes forever to actually dry clothes. I've tried smaller loads, replacing the hose, clearing the vents etc. I'm not sure how to tell if the thermostats need replacing, or if there is something else that's the matter.

Hello Shante, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, the issue might be with the cycling thermostat, part number PS11772030. It monitors and regulates the temperature inside the dryer. You may test the thermostat for continuity using a multimeter. If the meter reading shows zero ohms of resistance, the thermostat has continuity. We hope this helps!
Heat up some times it drys and other it stops it hot on top and back

Hello Edward, thank you for your inquiry. Based on the description that you have provided, we would recommend replacing the high limit thermostat, part number PS12073908, to fix the issue. It shuts off the heating element or burner when the dryer overheats. We hope this helps!
Turned dryer on and it is just 1year and 1/2 old and 5 minutes into dry cycle I could smell something strange!! So went to dryer and it felt so HOT to the touch on the topside as well as the hpousing on the sides of dryer!! So I immediatley shut it off and D/C the power to it..and then removed wet clothing from dryer drum & inspected and the lint vent was just cleaned So now what shall I check to see why it acted up like this as its A brand new dryer?

Hi Roxy, thank you for your question! The cycling thermostat, part number PS12171108, automatically turns off the heating element as soon as your appliance detects high temperatures. If something is wrong with the cycling thermostat, it will not turn off the heating elements, so the dryer temperature may continue to rise to unsafe levels. You can use a multimeter to test for appropriate functioning of the cycling thermostat and replace it if necessary. Good luck with this repair!
