Defrost Heater and Thermostat Assembly WP61006198

I measured the temperature inside of the freezer and refrigerator separately so that I knew that the temperatures were close to zero for the freezer and 38 degrees for the refrigerator.

Disconnected power,removed 2 screw on penel covered the coil,took off 2 penels that cover the coil.Use heater to melt ice.Removed & replaced new defrost heater & thermostat.So simple.

For the timer, I watched the handy instruction video on the website that was provided. Very easy to follow along.

For the assembly, i tried to click on the instructions but nothing popped up, so i went online and searched for a video on youtube.com which helped.

Very easy and convinent.

Unplug the refrigerator, open the back of the freezer, there were blocks of ice everywhere. I defrosted the ice using hair drier. Remove the heater and thermostat assembly and replace it with the new one.

I just recently replaced my defrost assemby which is very easy to do and the unit defrosted a few times then the condenser froze up again. I replaced the Heater/therm assy and it's been working well and defrosting properly now for a week. Hardest part of install is getting the plastic shroud off, you have to pull our and push down at so ... Read more me time, the back two clips are a bit of a pain but will eventually come down. After that it's a few screws and the unit falls out and is very simple to replace.

Checked air flow in refrigerator section and no air. Varified the air flap was open and working. Then recovers in freezer and observed frozen coils. Defrost coils with hair dry and the both units were working. Ordered defrost heater and replaced when received.

1st, I removed all the shelves and baskets. 2nd, I removed two screws (1/4" nut driver/socket) that attach the two lower panels at the back of the freezer. If there frozen on defrost with a hair dryer, with panels removed finish defrosting the coils and the two vents (top and bottom) on the inner wall. With the coils defrosted unplug th ... Read more e unplug the defrost heating element then remove the two screws securing the coil to the back wall of freezer. Coil movement is limited so be gentle. remove the retaining clip at bottom of coil. remove the element starting from the top, work it around the foam insert (dont remove the foam insert). install in the reverse order and dont forget to clip on the thermostat.

Turn off freezer.
Pull the shelves out of freezer.
Remove two screws that hold on back panel.
Melt ice off of cooling fins with hair dryer.
Remove heating element by unplugging heating element on top of fins, pull off wiring with small unit clipped to tubing, slide the wires out from the side of the fins, and pull off ... Read more clip on the bottom of the cooling fins that holds heating element.
To install new part I just reversed these steps.
