Dryer Thermal Fuse WP3399849

Very easy fix. I save my self about $300. Try the fuse first is about $26

I removed back panel. With the circuit tester I tested the heating coil and the thermostats and the one-time fuse. I found the fuse did not test a circuit. So I ordered the fuse and replaced it. The dryer works fine.

After searching on here, I decided to just replace the 3-components listed on this site (not the heating element wire kit). I didn't test the heating element and would save that for last if the replacement parts didn't work. Off the bat the fuse was the problem - no resistence reading on my $6 multimeter like the new one. I didn't both ... Read more er testing the other components. Since I wasn't sure why the fuse blew I decided to replace the Cycling and High Limit Thermostat at the same time to be safe. It took me longer to move the unit to access the back panel and take off the dozen or so screws then it did to replace the 3 components. The cost of the parts with shipping was less than the trip and diagnostic charge from an appliance repairman.

The failure was located at the back of the dryer behind the back cover. Removal of thr cover was quite easy and the thermal fuse is located completly in the open. After much grief and finding out that to replace my existing washer/dryer unit would cost about $ 1200, I was doing some research and found Partselect. I replaced two
thermostats and the thermal fuse in the dryer and now it works better than even before it went bad !. Turned out that I did not need the element, but I'm keeping it a ... Read more nyways in case I do at some point in the future.

I removed the hex screws from the fuse, unhooked the wire contacts and replaced with new fuse. I then plugged in the dryer and tried it. It worked!!
I then went on to unplug appliance again, replace the thermostats (while I had the back open and in case bad thermostats could have lead to fuse going bad)... roughly the same process as ...
