How do I separate the the top section from the bottom section of the agitator?

are there supposed to be splines inside the base that connect to the splines that come up from the Transmission? or is the bolt supposed to hold the base tight to the shaft?

Hello Michael, thank you for your question. On the end of the shaft that sticks up from the Gearcase PS16220913. The Drive Block PS11741977, connects to the gearcase. We suggest looking at both videos we show on installation found on our site. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair.
