First I bought an OHM meter, completely stripped down my dryer checking every part until I found one that was questionable (timer resistor assembly) and one that was definitely dead (a thermostat)...no reading! It's no wonder it was burnt out, the front cover of the dryer was impacted with lint that had no where else to go! Now I understand exactly why my mother & dad always reminded us to "clean out the lint filter". They must have gone through this once before themselves. I ordered the replacement parts late one evening and they showed up at my door by 2:00 pm the next day...it was awesome!!!!!! A big learning experience for me and it saved me a fortune. removed heating element, thermostat, and then replaced fuse. sorry, the control thermostat was not the problem. it was the fuse kit that failed. the control thermostat would have been easier to replace.

Dryer would not start, no enterior light operation
I down loaded the dryer schematic and itentified items that would potentially cause the observed symptoms. Initially, I replaced the thermal fuse. First I unplugged the dryer and slid it a few inches out from the wall. I slid 2 putty knives in the front top about 3 inches in from the sides. Released the top and raised it up. I used a multimeter to test the hi limit and the element, both were operational. I used a screwdriver to remove the 2 screws that hold the front panel in place.
... Read more I lowered the panel slightly and disconnected the wires mentally noting the proper placement. With the front panel on the floor, the problem was obvious. I cleaned the lint clog under the lint screen that had caused the issue to begin with.I used a shop vac and cleaned the vent area as well as the front panel. I used a nut driver to remove the 2 screws that held the thermostat in place. The old thermostat fell apart in my hands. I covered the bare exposed wires with electrical tape. ( must have gotten HOT) and reattached the connections to the new thermostat, then replaced the 2 screws that held it secure. I stood the front panel back up and reattached the electrical connections and the 2 screws. I lowered the top and plugged it back into the outlet. I turned it on. It works like new.

Heating element comes on only for about ten seconds when you first turn on the dryer. Will not stay on.

Hi David,
Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts that you may want to test to see if they are working. You should take a look at all of your thermostats. This part, and also your high limit thermostat, and the ones in your high limit kit. If any of these parts are malfunctioning they will be reading an unsafe temperature inside of your appliance. Causing the heating element to shut off fro safety reason. You should also test your door switch as well. It could be that it is not working correctly. When this part is malfunctioning, the machine thinks that the door is opening in the middle of the cycle and will not continue to run or heat up for safety reasons. All of these parts can be tested with a multi-meter. Good luck and I hope this helps!
Dryer issue. I'll load my dryer with some clothing then turn timer to let say 40 mins. It'll run for 5-10 mins then stops. It quits running. Here is the problem, I go back and push the timer knob to start the dryer and it make a humming- errrr noise. Now if I continue pressing the start knob 3, 4, or more time it still makes the same noise then it goes silent, nothing no noise and I do smell something and that something is coming from were the motor is. Question? Could it be the control thermostat or the cycling thermostat or(t-stat cycle) as they call it. Help please.

Hi Vince, Thank you for the question. Most times if the dryer stops it is due to over heating. I suggest checking the vents to the outside to make sure there is nothing blocking it. The vent hose needs to lay flat, with no dips or kinks as it can cause lint and condensation build up and restrict the air flow. You can test the High Limit Kit, PartSelect Number PS2162282 for continuity after the vent is checked and the Control Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS11740707. While checking these items it is a good idea to clean out any lint build up inside the cabinet and in the lint duct where the filter fits into.Hope this helps!

Maybe swapped in the past by someone. I have a second hand dryer and need a control thermostat. Looking it up by model in your system - it shows part wp31001088... unit has part wp31001192... which should I use. Thanks.

Dryer shuts off too soon in sensor mode and does not finish drying the clothes. Works in timer mode and drys just fine. What part needs to be replaced?

We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: heating element, timer switch, timer resistor assembly, control thermostat, the blower assembly, and seals. The Thermostat Control Unit on my is 31001088 rated at 120V. I see this is rated at 240V. Will I have any issues with this unit?

Hi Christopher, thank you for reaching out. We have researched and found that both the control thermostat and the cycling thermostat are different and operate on their specific voltage rating. You may install the cycling thermostat, part number PS11740707, and it will work perfectly. We hope this information helps!
