This is a lock sleeve for various models of rotary hammers. This lock sleeve is attached to the chuck and is designed to hold SDS drill bits, also known as slotted drive shaft bits, which feature a special shank that fits into the lock sleeve to prevent the bit from slipping out. This lock sleeve is made from high-quality, durable metal and is sold as an individual OEM part. If you notice drill bits that normally fit are slipping out, inspect the sleeve for extensive wear, in which case it would need to be replaced immediately to properly and safely use your rotary hammer. Your lock sleeve may also need to be removed or replaced temporarily if the bit you are using is incompatible. Replacing this lock sleeve will require a wrench to inspect and/or replace the old lock sleeve and must start by turning the hammer off and unplugging it. Use your wrench to disassemble and remove the old lock sleeve and clean the chuck and internal components with a cloth. Apply a small level of lubricant to the new lock sleeve before installing it, and once it is installed, tighten it to secure it. Test out your new lock sleeve with a drill bit to make sure it functions properly.
