My dryer heats up and dries for about 5 minutes then it cools down

My dryer was not hearing up and will not shut off. I was still running it for hours at a time to dry clothes a d now it is making a grinding noise. Easy fix or do i need to replace the whole dryer

Thank you for your question. If your dryer is not heating and will not shut off, check the vent for any clogs. If lint is clogging the vent, it will need to be cleaned out. The vent should be cleaned out at least twice a year. There are some other parts that you will need to check as well to see if one of them is causing the issue. The tub runs good, but the timer dial doesn’t move. Won’t heat up. Ohn the heating element and it shows through the meter to be good.

My dryer is 11 year's old and it takes a long time to dry my clothes! I replaced the belt last summer and it does get hot !

Thank you for your question. If your dryer takes along time to dry the clothes, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the lint filter, the blower wheel, the felt drum seal and the door seal. You should also check the exhaust vent for any clogs. If it is clogged, it will need to be cleaned out. We have included a link from our website that you may reference on how to check these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please call customer service. To reach the heating element you only need to open the back cover of the dryer (about 8 nut-head screws). Remember to disconnect the power.
To remove the heating element there are two small nut-head screws. Remove the two electric wires. Then you can pull the heating element away.

Don't hurry to dispose the old element. My model includes a small electric safety part. You'll need to transfer it to the new heating element (that comes without it)..
First tried heating element and thermal fuse with no luck. Ordered thermal cutoff and fixed problem. Had I used an ohm meter first I would have determined problem before having ordered heating element and fuse, as both had resistance. I wast just lazy and ordered the took the most common failed components first before taking dryer back

The repair was easy. the most time consuming part was vacuuming the dust from the back of the Dryer, The repair required removing screw from the back panel of the dryer. Then removing screws from the heating element and unplugging the wires. The only moderately diffculy part was swapping the sensor form the old element.
