Lights do not turn on when refrig door is open? Parts and replacement procedures please Rob v

Hi Rob, Thank you for your question. If the light in the refrigerator is not coming on when the door is open, the issue is likely the door switch. The part number listed under your model number for the light switch is PS8746269. If this switch malfunctions the light might not turn on consistently, if at all. You will need to test the switch with a multi-meter. Unplug your refrigerator and locate your door light switch. The location of the switch varies depending on the model of your refrigerator, but it is usually located somewhere near the top of the door opening. The switch is often mounted into the interior plastic liner and care should be taken when removing it to prevent damage to the liner. Remove the switch in order to test it. Set your multi-meter to the Rx1 setting to test the switch for continuity and place the probes on the switch’s terminals. The multi-meter reading should change from infinity to a reading of zero. Keep the leads touching the terminals and press in on the switch. The reading should change back to infinity. If the results you receive are not consistent with these results, you need a replacement door switch. Here is a link to one of our videos from YouTube that you may reference on how to install a door switch, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2juGyjXFpyk. The refrigerator in the video may not show exactly like the one you have, but it will give you a general idea on how to install the part. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

The freezer is cold. The refrigerator section is warm at the top but ice appears in lowest shelf. The freezer fan seems to be running fine. What could be the problem? I feel cold air coming out of the duct that feeds the ice make but no air flow from the other ducts. Thanks! Matt

Hi Matt, thank you for a very interesting question. Make sure that the door seal on the edge of the door is attached properly and seals properly. If the ventilation is blocked, then the cool air will not circulate in the refrigerator. You should allow as much space between the items as possible for the cool air to circulate in all parts of the refrigerator. Also, check the condenser coils are clean. If all checks are fine, it could be due to a frosted evaporator coil as refrigerant cools in the evaporator coils. It may cause the coils to develop a coating of frost. While your refrigerator’s defrost system typically melts this frost, if it is not working appropriately, frost will accumulate and block airflow within the coils. We would recommend checking the defrost heater, part number PS6883666. We hope this helps, good luck with the repair!

I went to a GE repair center to explain my problem, the service center reccomended that I have a techinician come out o look at it. $75.00 for the visit and what ever labor and materials wuld cost.

I went on line to see if there were others having this same problem and found that there were many with the same problem.

fridge side freezes some items
went to your website and viewed exploded view to find the sensor( there are two I just picked one to replace for now), pried the cover off carfully and pulled out the sensor. I snipped the wire in the middle leaving plenty to work with. I shortened the wire on the new piece, spliced the wires together and with some 3M rubberized, tape wrapped them up, replaced the sensor back into the cover and snapped in place.
