engine runs alright but when I release the brake it shut off

Hi James, thank you for reaching out. Based on our research, most riding mowers have a seat switch that kills the engine if you release the brake when no one is sitting in the seat. This essential safety device ensures the mower stops if no one is in control. If the seat switch is broken, it shuts off the engine even when you’re sitting on the seat. Plug in the wire harness. If the harness is unplugged, the engine always shuts off when you release the brake that way. No one can bypass the seat switch. Make sure the seat switch wire harness is plugged in securely. If the harness is plugged in securely, check the seat switch, part number PS8778612. If the switch is damaged, then it needs to be replaced. We hope this solves your problem!
