The pump shaft leaked
I used the pump/motor replacement kit. It was a very easy repair and the parts were a direct replacement with no modification necessary. I saved over $300.
I removed the two screw at the top holding the dishwasher to the counter top; pulled on the unit - but found it stuck on something. Of course the hot water feed and the drain hose were still connected and would not let the unit move out any further as there was no slack. If I had thought about it - I would have disconnected these from under the adjacent sink. But I ended up lying on the floor trying to disconnect them from underneath the unit. It was a bit difficult as there was very little room to move the wrench and the screwdriver. Once done, the unit came out very easily. When tipped over I disconnected the old motor and replaced with the new. It was a very different design but fitted in very easily. The hanger took a bit of working out as the diagrams are not very clear. The wires and clips went together easily. Once I had cleaned everything around the motor and the gunge that cames from years or washing dishes, it went back the way it came out. Albeit with the same difficulty with feed and drain hose. We ran the unit with no dishes for a couple of times to clear our the muck left in the pipes when the system was down. Now we have a fully functioning dishwasher again. Cost $250 for the pump and motor as opposed to the $800+ unit my wife was looking at!

dishwasher did'nt drain water . solinoid was melted and stuck
First I removed the two screws that hold the solinoid in place,then I removed the e clip and unpluged the wire and pulled out the plastic lever with the solinoid and springs. To install Solinoid:First I bolted on the bracket ,then I hooked in the spring in the plastic lever and installed lever on shaft then I hooked in the long spring to the bracket small hole in the bottum then I installed the e clip next I pluged in the wire.Then I tried the Washer .Averthing works fine.
See GE web site for repair instructions. Take out screws at top of door. Slide unit out there is a spring on each side of the door just look at the good one for details. Easy fix. About 30 minutes.
opened the box , new one was an exact fit, pulled out the old one and dropped the new one in place??, this is more of a review, the new part was the exact same one...perfect!
Squeeze the new link to the cable hook with pliers while locking the vise grip to the cable for easier handling. Then, using the vise grip on the cable, hook the other end of the link to the dishwasher door hook
I watched several YouTube videos on how to make the repair. It looked very easy but sometimes professionals, because they've done it before, don't point out small tips that would help a DIY homeowner. The latch goes easily into the inner door slot but there's nothing to hold it there. The videos show the inner and outer door being closed together without showing that you have to hold the latch in place while bringing the outer door up to meet the inner door. Any movement of the inner door makes the latch fall out. So I would say it took me 5 times longer to do this repair than it would if I was doing it again.
I watched the convenient video and saved an old machine that I've grown to love. Plus I didn't have to pay a repair service or have to buy a new machine. Thanks GE, T. Dunn
Old filter screen was deteriorated and needed to be replaced.
Removed four 1/4 inch hex head screws from old filter frame and lifted out old filter frame. Fitted new filter frame into place and installed two 1/4 inch hex head screws (the new filter frame only uses two screws).
Looked up possible causes on your website. Website stated that more than 50% of time the cause was the piston and nut assembly. Removed the piston and nut assembly in bottom of unit behind screen on rear wall and saw that the gasket seal was completely gone . Ordered the part. took less than 10 minutes to install. Tested the unit and it drained completely. Thank you as i was looking at a more difficult repair if the pump had to be replaced.Repair cost less than $20.00.Before changing piston and nut assembly I cleaned the strainer and sump. disconnected drain hose and checked for blockage . i than checked your website that listed the piston assembly as the culprit more than 50% of the time. At first I thought I would call a repair man.Then I thought-that will be at least $100!So we went online and found the part.Took about four days to arrive.I pulled the dishwasher out and turned it on it's front.The little leaking hose was easy to remove,two clamps,and the new one installed.Total cost-$14.00.
