Old refrigerator gaskets were worn out
I unboxed the replacement gasket set and inspected them for damage. Then I opened the left refrigerator door and grabbed the right hand corner of the old gasket and removed it. I then aligned the new gasket with the door and using my fingers pushed the gasket into the gasket grove. I used my thumb to seat the gasket. I repeated the process for the right door. Total time was under 15 minutes. Read more...

Right door seal lower tab was torn.
Unpacked, inspected, found two minor defects in the form of two tiny slivers along the seal edge which I cut with a small scissor, laid the seal down on the kitchen table, applied heat to the deformed areas and reshaped them with my fingers, heated the entire seal lightly, removed the old seal starting at the right hand upper corner using my fingers, installed the warm seal starting at the top corners by pushing it in its slot making sure the outer lip stayed out of the slot and worked my way around. I believe that the heat from the dryer made it pliable and easier to manage. Read more...

My original gaskets for the fridge and freezer doors seemed to have lost their magnetic hold
I opened the freezer door and peeled out the freezer gasket, inserted the new gasket, and closed the door. I repeated this same process for each of the French doors on the refrigerator. This was very easy to do. The only issue is the replacement gaskets don't seem to have any better stick or magnetic hold than the original gaskets, so I'm not sure the repair will improve the energy efficiency / performance of the appliance. The refrigerator door gasket (white) is a flexible seal that ensures an airtight closure between the refrigerator door and the main compartment. It helps maintain optimal cooling efficiency by preventing warm air from entering and reducing energy consumption. Over time, door gaskets can wear out, leading to air leaks that can affect performance. Replacing a worn gasket can improve temperature consistency and prevent excess condensation inside the fridge. Before installation, ensure the door surface is clean for a secure fit. Check compatibility with your refrigerator model before ordering, as gaskets may have slight variations in size or design.

Frost-free freezer was frosting up
First I cut the gasket-fip with the wire cutters. Then I removed the gasket by pulling it away from the center if the door (not perpendicular to the door). I placed the new gasket over the door, secured the corners first, then pressed the rest of the gasket into place.

The repair to the refrigerator door (lower compartment) stopped the freezer from frosting (upper compartment), and it also reduced the time the compressor runs. However, I have the freezer turned to the lowest possible setting, and it still seems to be quite cold. There may be another issue w/ the unit such as the thermostat.

Ice sheet forming on the bottom of the freezer, requiring frequent disassembly and cleanup
We were misled into believing we needed to replace the door seal, and after this replacement was completed we found out it was not the case.

Instead we needed to clean out the EXTENSION-DRAIN,DUAL EVAP W11661573, part #5 on the unit diagram, which is found on the back of the unit.

Back to the seal instructions:
Once you remove the original seal you cannot reuse it, so if you replace it and it is not what you needed, you can't return the not-needed part. There goes about $190.

Also, the seal comes with no instructions (at the time there was no instruction video here either and we had to search other sites). It turns out it takes at least 24 hrs for the rubber seal to regain its shape. You also may have to use a hair dryer for this pre-installation process. Because of this, I marked the time of repair as more than 2 hours.
The end of the instruction video we followed called for testing the new seal installation with a bill ($), if you can pull it out easily from the closed door, you need to continue heating the seal with the hair dryer to improve sealing.

So do yourself a favor and test you fridge seal first, to see if you really need to replace it. Close the door with a bill or paper trapped. If it is loose or falls out, seal needs to be replaced, if the bill/paper stays firm enough, the seal is fine.

It took a lot of research through other resources, not Partselect, to eventually fix the ice formation issue. From all the appliance repairs I have done, this was the most frustrating, although not the most complicated. Since no part needs to be purchased (though you could replace the drain tube for just $24 instead of hassle to clean it), no real help from parts stores is available, and you have to rely on random people with their home videos, some are reliable some are not. We could not find one with our model (596.72383411) and had to figure it out based on similar models. Our drain tube has a siphon, so it is a little harder to clean than other models with s straight tube.

Good luck!

freezer door gasket needed replacing
Unplug refrigerator. Open freezer door. Lift the old gasket from the edge closest to the center of the door to expose the hex-head screws. Get a nut driver the appropriate size (1/4" if I remember) and loosen, but do not remove all of the screws. Once loosened, the old gasket can be removed. Slip the new gasket in just like the old one was. Lift the edges closest to the center of the door and tighten the screws. Test the fit of the new gasket by closing the door and sighting carefully down each of the four seal lines. Typically there will be spots where there are gaps, that is, the gasket is not "pulled out" enough to contact the refrigerator body. This is due to kinks that occur to the gasket during shipping. A paper that comes with the gasket notes the effect and recommends using a hair dryer to remove the kinks. Although the recommendation is to use the dryer BEFORE putting the gasket on, I used the dryer after, when I could see exactly where the gaps were. After noting the spots, open the door and with the dryer on HIGH setting, wave the hot air stream back and forth for a minute or two on each spot. Pull each spot out by hand with the hot air off and if/when the gasket is cool enough to touch but still warm. Close the door, inspect and repeat the process if necessary. I was able to achieve a good seal all the way around this way. Read more...

Leaking gaskets around french door refrigerator and bottom freezer doors
I began by comparing new gaskets to old gaskets to determine placement. I thenremoved all gaskets around doors. They pulled off easily. I then cleaned and dried all the places where the new gaskets would go. I then replaced each gasket taking care to replace exactly as the had been removed. There were flaps on the French door which had a specific placement. You must be flexible and be able to lay on the floor to secure the bottom freezer gasket. All gaskets were misshapex from the box and needed to be heated in place by the hairdryer before a good seal could be acheived. Read more...
