Damaged stove top burned off finish.
Pull out stove. Unscrew wiring from burner holes. On the back take off lower panel. Take off upper panel. Unscrew end caps from control panel. Take off all knobs. Carefully lift panel up and over the top to expose pivot pin. Unscrew pin from stove top. Remove stove top. Reinstall new one in reverse steps.

someone sat on cooktop and dented it
took off burners, removed screws one at a time, only tough part was getting to grounding screw so i took off back plate (easy) to get to grounding screw. i recommend doing it all at once with no break so you remember where screw went, or mark them with sharpie. it was fun once i got started. good experience and now it looks like new. plus
