Unit kept tripping any GFCI I tried, then I tried a non GFCI as part of troubleshooting. Unit made an odd sound and then a soft pop with a whiff of smoke after several minutes. It had filled with water but wouldn't do anything thereafter, before it popped and I unplugged everything. If it is the circulation pump, how can I test if it went bad with a multimeter?

Hi Benworth, thank you for your inquiry. In order to test the circulation pump for continuity, contact the black meter lead to one of the pump terminals and the red lead to the other terminal. The meter display should indicate 10 to 100 ohms of resistance if the pump is functioning properly. However, if the meter display shows little or no change, then the pump has no electrical continuity and needs to be replaced. Glad to be of help!
