This is a drain pump assembly for various compatible models of dishwashers, that is responsible for draining the water from the dishwasher after every cycle. This drain pump assembly is made of plastic and fits within the sump assembly, which controls the flow of water into the drain. This drain pump assembly is a genuine OEM part and is made of a high-quality plastic but is sold as an individual component without any other parts, like its drain pump check ball which works within the pump to prevent water from backwashing into the pump, as well as the drain pump cover. If you notice your dishwasher is not draining or has a lot of water buildup at the bottom of the sump assembly, this filter may be damaged, clogged or broken, and in need of a replacement. To replace this pump assembly, you will only need a Philips-head screwdriver, but should start by removing your dishwasher racks. Then, pull up on the lower spray arm, and drain trap to remove them. Next, rotate the spray arm support and pull that up to remove it, at which point you can remove the base and filter for the drain pump. With those out, you can use your Philips-head screwdriver to disconnect and remove the cover and drain pump assembly. With the pump removed, you can inspect it or install the new drain pump assembly, with the same hardware as before. Then it is as simple as reassembling the rest of your dishwasher, ensuring each connection point is fastened tightly.

This drain pump is used in dishwashers to remove water from the dishwasher tub. If the impeller in the dishwasher is damaged or the motor has been shorted out and will not drain, it is possible the body is cracked, causing leakage. To prevent this from happening, replace the drain pump. The tools needed for this installation are: Phillips screwdriver, 5/16 inch nut driver, 5/8 inch wrench, and a flathead screwdriver. Remember to unplug your dishwasher from the power source before beginning this installation project. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for further installation instructions.

dishwasher not draining after wash cycle
Caviat: The actual repair is less than 15 minutes, but I spent a lot of time playing with it before I figured out it was that easy and fast. You don't need to remove the dishwasher from the counter to do this. And it will probably help to look at the new part closely so you can understand where the retainer clip is to press it and release the old pump.

First remove the water from the dishwasher pan that would not drain with a wet/dry vac. Otherwise the water will all drain on the floor when you remove the pump. Then remove the two screws on the kickplate on the front of the unit below the door. Remove the kickplate/maintainence access cover. The drain pump is on the right about 8 inches in. Using two hands you grasp the drain pump with your right hand and use the left hand to push the retaining clip down. Then the drain pump will rotate 1/4 turn counterclockwise and can be removed without pulling the dishwasher out. There is likely to be some water leak out that was traped in the pump housing that you can not reach with the vac. Disconnect the wire. Connect the wire to the new pump, put it in place and 1/4 turn clockwise to install it. Replace the kickplate and you're done.

not cleaning, spray arms not working
The hardest part was disconnecting the dishwasher. the motor is located on the bottom so after pulling it out and laying it down on the front of the machine the motor unplugs and 2 screws hold it in place. The new motor comes with "O" rings so I applied a little grease and put it back together. 2 minutes to replace motor, 15 minutes to disconnect water and electric, 15 to reconnect. This dishwasher drain and wash impeller kit comes with both the drain and wash impeller, gaskets, chopper, and installation screw. This part helps stop your dishwasher from leaking and helps with the proper draining of the dishwasher. If you notice that your dishes are not cleaning, the dishwasher is not draining properly, or is making any unusually loud sounds or grinding noises, this could indicate the impeller and seal kit have broken down and need to be replaced. You will need a #15 and #20 torx driver, a small flat-blade screwdriver, 1/4-inch nut driver, adjustable wrench, and a small hammer and a sharp chisel.

Dishwasher would not drain
**** A stubby Philips screw driver will save you a lot of headache taking the two retaining screws out that hold the drain pump assembly to the hanging bracket *** An inspection mirror was also helpful trying to locate these screws.

I thought the pump impeller vane was possibly broken because the pump would not drain the dishwasher but it would energize and make a loud clicking/rumbling noise.

1) Drain water from the dishwasher. I used a piece of tubing and siphoned the water out. Remove front cover plate.

2) Turn off breaker and dsconnect two wires going into pump.

3) Remove the pump inlet. I kept the 4" rubber jumper piece attached when I took the pump out.

4) I had to disconnect the wash water feed line to be able to reach the hose clamp on the pump outlet.

5) Loosen hose clamp on the pump outlet if you can reach it, otherwise remove the two screws that hold the drain pump assembly in. There is one screw on each side of the pump. I used an inspection mirror to see the screws. I had to use a stubby Philips head screw driver to take the screws out.

6) Wrangle the drain section out and finish taking off the pump outlet hose clamp. Install new pump and work backwards to put it together.

When I pulled the pump out I found the impeller to be complete (not broken as I had thought) and I saw it had two small steel balls that sat in grooves. I think the two balls and groove act as a safety detent and disengage the pump if something big gets sucked in. I pushed down on the impeller and everything snapped together nicely. Since I already ordered a new pump and I had everything taken apart already I installed the new one but I think I could have just used the old one.

Hope this is helpful to someone else. Washer has worked fine since.

This is the replacement impeller kit for your dishwasher. This impeller kit comes with 4 pieces, including the impeller and seals which you will need for the repair. The impeller and seal kit is mounted on the dishwasher motor. If your dishwasher is not cleaning dishes properly, it may be an indication that your impeller has gone bad, and you are not getting proper water pressure. If the seals have gone bad, your dishwasher may start to leak. If you are having either of these problems, you may need to replace the impeller kit. Be sure to disconnect the water and power source from the dishwasher before you begin this repair. This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer.

Started with a grinding noise in the bottom of the dishwasher, and then the thing just stopped cleaning the dishes. It wasn't pumping any water,
I removed the plasic inner parts, used the torx drivers to remove the internal platic plate that covered the sump. Found the food chopper cover and removed it. It had gotten a piece of plastiic wrapped around it. As it spun it had ground the teeth off the end of the drive on the impellor and the food chopper. I replace both as a set and it works fine. The dishwasher would not spray to middle or top rack and detergent would not dissolve.
I pulled off the cover inside the sump area. Then pulled the washer out from the counter and turned it on it's side. I took the old pump out and crimped a new wire harness on. It was a simple repair for a DIYer.

Before pushing the dishwasher back, I tested the dishwasher with it pulled out from the counter. It was easy to see water was flowing forcefully through the upper tubing now. Success.

Troubleshooting this faulty pump was harder because it was functioning, but it did not have enough force to push the water up to the top rack. I convinced myself that the pump was the problem by plugging the lower rack with a cork. The spray was still too weak to rotate the upper spray arm. I also ruled out the timer with a stop watch. This unit alternates upper and lower racks by pausing either 0.6 seconds or 3 seconds. This controlls a ball that diverts water to the upper or lower rack.

Dishwasher would fill properly but when wash cycle would start you could not hear any water spraying.
First I removed the lower spray arm by removing the middle retainer nut. Next remove the 3 screws holding the outer shroud in place. Next remove 6 screws holding the water pump top housing in place. Under this housing you will find the impeller which is retained by a screw. Check the impeller closely for cracks especially near the center hex portion of the impeller. Replace if you have any doubt of it's integrity. Next remove the lower pump housing that has the screen material in the center. What I found was the nylon part that attaches to the shaft of the motor was stripped so the impeller would spin in it's normal direction ( counterclockwise) but under the load of water it would not. So I ordered a new impeller and seal kit with a metal sleeve and chooper blade. Follow the instructions provided in the new kit a reassemble accordingly. Read more...
