Rattling noise and banging during spin cycles
I removed the washer front cover and slanted cover between washer and drier to see where the noise was coming from. I found 2 rubber stabilizing straps broken away from the tub cap and popped off the snap on tub cap to see if I could repair it. I could not, so, I ordered a new tub drip cap thinking that would solve the problem. Well, the
... Read morenew cap was not identical to the one I took out. The pegs that the straps are supposed to connect to were nonexistent ... frustrating. After reading several help files, I discovered that GE had changed the design of the drip cap intentionally and had done away with the stabilizing straps. There was no mention of the design change in the instructions that came with the new part. Okay, now the real fun began...LOL. Removing those darned tub hangers was a challenge because I was working alone and in a very confined area. The instructions said to remove the 2 front hangers and let the tub sit on the floor. I did not like doing that for fear of damaging other parts under the tub. Additionally, I could not reach the rear hangers if I did it the recommended way. So, I used some oak boards and straps to lift (jack up) the tub as high as possible and to remove the weight off of the tub hangers. With the weight removed from the hangers, they snapped out of place...not easily. The 2 rear hangers are hard to reach and the plastic hanger caps were difficult to unsnap. I had to slam the plastic caps against the frame to get them unsnapped from the metal rods. The instructions did not contain any description of how the hangers are connected or how to get them removed. Anyway, I put it all back together and tested it. Everything is working fine now...minus the stabilizing straps. It would be very easy to injure yourself doing this job. Take your time and consider the consequences before jumping into this alone or with improper lifting equipment or mechanical skills. It was tedious and frustrating but not impossible. Good luck!

The rear right rod that stabilizes the tub disconnected from the frame
This was the third time the same rod had disconnected from the frame of the washer. The first time, it took us all day to fix it, trying to hold the tub up and reconnect the rod. GE updated the part which now requires you to replace the tub cover, rod, and springs. Once all is replaced, the rubber straps are no longer needed. Pro tip: Red springs are for the rear, grey for the fronts. Intermediate diy took about 2 hrs.

I ordered p/n wh49x27616 and when i received it it is different than the one i took of of it. Now i do not have a way to attach the rubber straps. Is the correct part. I read others had similar problems and were told this is the replacement part for that item so how do i install it without the straps or can i?Thank you

Sounds like there is a connection problem. Did you get the correct pump for your unit? The model number matches the part number. One rubber shock damping strap broke off at tub ring. Can machine run with just 3 straps. Newer model doesn't seem to use the shock dampening shocks at all.

Hello Jill, Thank you for the question. The straps on this model are required to keep the tub from bouncing around and staying level. All 4 are required.Without the straps the tub, rods or other parts can be damaged. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

This tub cover has the tabs for the rubber straps but it does not have the pegs for the rubber straps to slide over. The diagram shows them, how are you supposed to attach the rubber straps?

The tub cover/ring that i ordered didn't come with the little pegs on it to attach the dampening straps from the rods to the tub ring. The replacement part is different from the original. How do i attach them? Do i actually have to rig something myself like drilling a hole through the tub ring at the attachment spots where the pegs should be or what? The installation instructions just say put it back together the way it came apart, but the new tub ring isn't the same as the old one. Why would the manufacturer change the way the tub ring is made without a way to attach the straps? Makes no sense.

Hello Trish, thank you for your question. There should be four small connection points for the straps that are just enough to fit the strap onto the cover. This tub cover WH49X27616 is the one specified for your model so the part number is correct. It is certainly recommended that the straps be used as they are part of the design of this unit. I have ordered this part twice from my supplier and i keep getting one that does not have the holes for screws that hold rubber straps on the suspension rods. i was needing to know if you can verify this part has the 4 holes for these mounts..the picture in the tub breakdown shows them and the screws etc.. but so did the ones I've had to send back. thanks for checking and let me know thank you
