The refrigerator was too warm. The drawers where vegetables and fruits are kept were being frozen. The vents blowing cool air into bins were iced up.
Took the drawers out of fridge and unscrewed the support rails for drawers and unscrewed inside back wall of fridge. Removed cover on blower fan ~ unplugged fan. This took 45 mins. Left refrigerator unplugged and let thaw out. Replaced with new fan 5 days later. Plugged in new fan. Then Plugged in refrigerator to make sure it would work. After 15 minutes, unplugged fridge and put rails and drawers back. Total time 45 minutes. Plugged refrigerator back in and let run 24 hours. It took 5 days to get part due to snow storm delaying delivery. It works perfectly. Our GE will be 10 years old in August.
Refrigerator began to make a very loud noise which lasted up to 3 minutes long. This sound repeated once a day every 4 to 6 days
GE sent a technician to our home. He listened to the video I had made of the loud noise the fridge was making and he knew what I needed without even looking at the appliance. The parts would take 60 to 90 days due to distribution chain issues. He gave me the part numbers and I paid him $140.00 for his service fee. I found the parts myself that I needed on PartsSelect.com which arrived with 2 weeks. I watched a YouTube video on how to install the parts. The hardest part was emptying my entire refrigerator of perishables so I could easily get to the malfunctioning fan motor and the motor’s boot. I used a heat gun to dislodge ice clinging to the parts I needed to remove to reach the fan motor. It worked well. Once I was able to detach the old fan motor & its boot, I easily slid the new one into its place. I then reattached everything I had disassembled. It works beautifully without disruptive noise. The water filter cartridge door also easily snapped into place, replacing one with a broke latch. I love the saying, “What one man can, another man can do.”(Except I’m a girl - my husband was amused).
Refrigerator would warm up while freezer got colder
Repair man thought it was the control board and an issue with a relay on the board. Purchased the new board but found out the board was fine, and it was the recirculating fan that would go out intermediately.
Tried ordering that part from Part Select since they have been great, but GE discontinued the part and their was not a replacement available. After much research, found the new replacement part number and ordered that, it went in quickly and for now seems to have solved the problem.
Removed the bad inlet valve and installed the replacement. Very easily done. The replacement part made the repair so simple and saved me a huge amount over calling a repair man. It did not take any special knowledge.
Received replacement part. There is a cover over the ice box latch. Pried it off with a screwdriver head. Took the broken latch off replaced new latch to cover and replaced on the door.
I used pliers to pull lightly on the head of the switch, while I inserted a small flat head screw driver into the base of switch and gently worked around the edges to free it from the panel.
The old switch was hard to remove. Thinking that I may have to loosen the wires I used a socket wrench to remove a clamp. This was unnecessary. In the end the switch did come out using a large size screwdriver. The problem was that the expanding plastic tongue is not visible from the ouside so you have to try to feel your way around. If i had ordered the replacement before and not afterwards I would have seen this before hand.
After replacing the light bulb and still no light I manually pushed the light switch button. Intermittently the light would come on then go out. I removed the power plug from the power source then replaced the light switch. I plugged the refrigerator back in and now I open the door the light comes on and stays on until the door is closed.
While cleaning, I Broke the glass that tops the 2 vegetable drawers.
The glass fits easily under a plastic ridge that is the frame holding the 2 vegetable drawers below. Slide the back side of the glass under the ridge, and then gently place the front of the glass in the groove where it goes on top of the vegetable drawers. Its Super simple, and takes literally 30 seconds to complete.
I replaced the three sensors, 2 in the freezer 1 in the refrigerator. This was rated as the most common problem. Did not fix the problem. I then checked the ohms on the new sensors then the old sensors they were all within .5 of each other. So I got smart and went down the list of causes on their list. I emailed partselect and asked what the parts should read. They replied with that information and it turned out to be the voltage converter on the compressor. I ordered the part on friday payed for overnight delivery and it arrived tuesday. This as you can imagine makes me angry. But the part was easy to install and my refrigerator started working right away. I would advise anyone with this problem to start at the top of the problem list use a multi meter check everything on the list and only replace part or parts that don't come up to standards. This will save time and money and hopefully fix the problem the first time as you are not switching out parts and hoping that it solves the problem.
